once again, i'll suggest that perhaps the reason the broad public thinks democrats are weak is that when confronted with situations that demands that democrats loudly and proactively stand up for their values, democrats shirk from the fight

having your heart broken by your parents is, imo, always going to be the deepest psychological wound. to one degree or another, it's the first heartbreak and the lasting one for so many people.

I completely agree with this, but man are there days where my answer to everything is "fuck you and fuck off" so I get that too. I just try to make sure those days are Offline™
i personally think that if you participate in public discourse you have a responsibility to question your assumptions and engage in legitimate conversation rather than just shouting down your opponents, and that citing misconduct on the other side does not justify ignorant behaviors or beliefs

one caveat I'll add is they absolutely DO love individual sacrifice - as a concept of penance they feel should apply to ideological "enemies". 'Comfortable liberals' need to sacrifice before them bc privilege, etc. Some of that is legitimate, but so much is just resentment and cognitive dissonance
One thing about the anti-Dem Left is they seem to prioritize “my conscience” over group solidarity. No concept of individual sacrifice. Very individualistic, anti-comaderie ironically. the fact Gazans were begging Americans to elect Harris should have been enough to change their mind.

I think about my mom if she had to bury me, I think about my mom still a child herself at 12 burying the only parent she had... I think of how that death broke so many people, how death is both such a small price to pay for the chance to live and yet *nothing* could be crueler.
