Until AI is proven to create more empathy and love among people it really isn’t solving the big problems.
What resists authoritarianism?
Design.
Authoritarianism grows in the cracks of disconnection.

That’s why people-powered networks matter.
When people can find each other, and stay in motion together, democracy becomes resilient.

Good news, @drilledmedia.bsky.social now has a BlueSky account. Act accordingly.
And for those who follow such things, here is the deep dive on that study published in Nature linking individual fossil fuel companies with specific climate harms that I reported earlier this week.

You'll find all the detail I couldn't pack into a ~600 word news report over at Drilled.
“Numbers in the Trillions”: Fossil Fuel Producers on Hook for Climate Harms
New research suggests a way to link oil, gas and coal companies to specific climate harms.

This administration breaks norms (and laws) but they are not some inevitable force that can overcome all laws of politics. Public pressure, lobbying, litigation and negative media coverage can change the course of policy.

A gobsmacking story. Water companies let toxic waste disposers, for cash, dump their loads into sewage farms. The sewage sludge is then spread, untested, on farmland, potentially poisoning vast areas, entire ecosystems and the people (you and me) eating the food.

What’s in the millions of tonnes of sludge sprayed on to farmland? The answer won’t make you happy | George Monbiot
Thanks to breathtaking negligence, the liquid fertiliser used to help grow our food bubbles with a lethal cocktail of toxins, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

People need to be crystal clear about something: The requirement that the government ANSWER to a court on the legal basis for detaining someone is literally the core liberty right (habeas corpus). If the government says they don’t have to do that bc “national security,” YOU can be disappeared.

A fundamental difference between the parties is that Republicans understand that public opinion can be shaped, whereas Democrats believe it can only be responded to. So Republicans shape opinion rightward, Democrats believe it’s what The People™ want, then proceed to also move rightward. Repeat.
“Those nasty Canadians are ripping us off and are controlled by Mexican cartels. They’re poisoning us with fentanyl and need to become the 51st state or they will pay a high price” is a belief that literally ZERO Americans had six weeks ago. It’s entirely invented from scratch.

Republicans that don’t agree with what is happening and don’t speak up are cowards. This is your personal problem. Fix it. It really has nothing to do with Trump. Integrity is from within.

The USAID Memorial Wall is a wall of plaques with the names of humanitarian workers killed in the line of duty in the lobby of USAID.

Musk's doge goons defaced it and tried to tear it down as part of their effort to destroy USAID.

Shawn Siochain isn't going to forget.

This Politico story from last October shows how easy it is to launder lies through the press. It claimed Trump would ban anyone tied to Project 2025 from a job in a second Trump administration.
“Clearly people working on Project 2025 are blacklisted,” said an unidentified Trump insider. 1/4🧵

The names include conservatives linked to Project 2025 and Republicans viewed as disloyal to the former president.

Just wait until the next administration decides to refuse to send checks for stupid weapon systems, honor oil leases, and unilaterally relocate the money to something else. Watch how the oil and defense contractors, lobbyists etc …all of a sudden really care about congressional approval of funding.

All these companies have fallen short of goals that they set and are now abandoning these initiatives. This is one of many reasons why tech bros cannot be leaders in the model for democracy! They literally have no idea what they’re doing in bringing everyone along.
