I'm of the strong belief that the stereotype of the English in particular, the stiff upper lip etc, is trauma response to the wars. A whole nation affected and showing PTSD to varying degrees. The 'change' in recent years is where those effects have waned in subsequent generations.

Re digital ids, people dont tend to carry ID documents on them daily, but most do carry phones. Highly valuable phones, and even more so when it contains valuable ID etc. Very stealable. Phones that can already be hacked, data centres who get hacks or sell on your information to the highest bidder.
