Brief is The Sun

These photos were taken early, though the moment was late, by slipping into the hallway of a building that wasn't awake. The sky was changing quickly, and so, I didn’t try to capture it properly, or to understand it while it was happening. I just framed its unshaped clouds. Imperfect, obstructed, late they turned out, and although that feels wrong, they hold the emotion of something true, something that couldn't last but that still managed to leave its warmth behind. The sunrise passed, so did the moments it reminds me of, but neither feel wasted. Of Corrosive Time

Time corrodes everything: walls, metal, even memories. During my one evening in Zakopane, my sight met this weathered building with its paint peeling into orange and grey, and a river lined with a railing covered in rusted locks. Little pieces of history still clinging on, most of their stories probably over long before the metal began to give in. Yet together, these places of corrosive time form their own dramatic story, one of bruised colors, paleness, and the kind of moodiness that lingers long after you’ve walked away. 🏚️

Parasol Mushrooms 🍄‍🟫

Among fallen leaves and scattered cones, two parasol mushrooms emerge from the damp soil, their pale caps gleaming softly in the afternoon light. They appear to belong to the Macrolepiota family: elegant in form yet possibly deceptive, a reminder of how beauty and vulnerability often share the same space. Standing amid the forest debris, they are shrouded by the autumnal silhouette that the forest has assumed. Chicory & The Hoverfly ☀️

I didn’t know this was chicory when I took the photo, just a blue flower holding its color in the dry grass. Later I learned its roots are the ones roasted into Inka (the drink), that quieter cousin of coffee, the taste without the tremor. And the wasp I thought I captured was only a hoverfly, harmless beneath its borrowed stripes. City lights shimmer against the fading sky, their glow mirrored and refracted, while branches and wires etch a fragile lace across the horizon. It is twilight caught between reflection and silhouette, a quiet filigree of dusk. 🪾 I’ve been holding onto these photos for a while. You all have been nice and putting up with me posting bugs today so here is a photo of one of the Northern Flicker dudes that likes to hang around the yard. He hasn't been drumming on the chimney cap yet, but any day now he'll be establishing territory.
A handsome woodpecker that is tan in color with horizontal patterns on his wings and back, a black mustache patch, red blaze on his neck, and yellow on the edge of his wings. He is clinging to a large branch.
