I couldn't believe it when I saw Djalili on the bill, given his laudable campaigning for the rights of Iranian women. & a Carr/CK co-headline act: the Ludovico Treatment for stand-up.
"You needn't take it any further, sir. You've proved to me that all this comedy is wrong, wrong and terribly wrong".

EVIL EDNA (1981): The antagonist on BBC animated kid's show Willo The Wisp (Kenneth Williams having a ball on voice-over duties). A nasty witch in the form of a CRT telly, complete with aerials, metal legs, and, presumably, a 625-line face. Many a female teacher was given the nickname 'Evil Edna'.

LONELY WATER (1973): Legendary child-frightener, and one of the most influential and effective PIFs ever made. Donald Pleasence's voice helped lower the number of child deaths by drowning and opened the door to the scary, deadly PIFs of the 70s & 80s. A folk horror film condensed into 90 seconds.

Robert Redford was my favorite, it’s hard to process that he is gone. His performances made more movies beloved to me than anyone else, I’d take The Sting over any other film for flawless perfection. We don’t expect famous people to also be good people but he was. He belongs to the ages
Robert Redford in The Sting Robert Redford in All The President’s Men Robert Redford in Three Days of the Condor Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Saw this viral post going on IG about how Vera Wang started over at 40 when everyone in fashion told her she was too old, and launched a wedding dress empire. And I was like hell yeah that’s awesome, and then in the 8th slide “her father gave her $4 million to open a boutique” ah there it is

Everyone has a 1-2 season TV show they sorely miss and not enough people knew about that you are always praising the heavens about.

What's yours?

Trust Britain to meet the Bang Bus with not moral panic but clerical pedantry, some pallid council drone, worsted trousers shiny with duty, googling a pornstar at taxpayer expense, then loftily ruling her vehicle ‘a van’. Our bureaucracy: prurient, petty, and perversely glorious.

The “bang bus” owned by adult entertainer Bonnie Blue, visiting Oxford for Freshers’ Week, will not be eligible to pass through the High St bus gate. An Oxfordshire County Council spokesman told the Clarion: “Having taken the risk of googling Bonnie Blue’s Bang Bus, the vehicle appears to be a van.”
The wheels on the bus bounce up and down, all day long

Hah. Sorry - I wish. Need to go on the dark web for that.

OST = Original SoundTrack!

Top line-up! The Simon Boswell gig will be ace. Funnily enough, only the other day I was trying to find a copy of his OST for Richard Stanley's 'Hardware'. They're like hen's teeth but am currently watching one on Ebay! Aberystwyth is lovely. My father-in-law lives there so always nice to visit.

Justin Webb just referred on Today to "platforms like Bluesky, where you can see the celebration of the killing" of Charlie Kirk.

What I'm seeing on here is overwhelming condemnation; despair at the violence of US politics; alarm at where this might go; & calls for equal horror at other shootings.

Happy 38th birthday, KNIGHTMARE, the hardest game show on television! In 1987, Treguard the Dungeon Master welcomed the first team of adventurers to his blue screen labyrinth. Losers didn’t just fail, they 'died': blades, spikes, and bottomless pits abounded. "Ooh, nasty..."

Totally. Hypocrisy matters across the political spectrum. And while it's more often the case that hypocrisy occurs on the right of politics, it isn't a balancing exercise. 100 hypocritical acts of a party we do not support does not (and must not) outweigh 1 hypocritical act of the party we do.

What... that's IT?!

That's their fucking list?!

CALIFORNIFUCKINCATION?????

Oh mate indeed.

I'd even go as far to say...

(Aside - extremely excited to see you play Sheffield on Wednesday 🔥🤘💥)
mattcolbeck.bsky.social
Yeah... it's not exactly Saturday Night Escapism 😬

The book's even worse, I think. Though I think that's down to the accurate portrayal of acute mental illness, a real rarity in such texts...

Ah, maaaan! This is what I'm currently reading; nearly finished it, in fact.

Aiming to rewatch this after I finish the book, as I saw it when it was released at the Stoke Film Theatre, Stoke being my hometown 🤘

Superb scene from Stephen Frears’ The Hit with mob assassin John Hurt perplexed by supergrass Terence Stamp’s seemingly zen-like acceptance of his impending death at his hands.
Obviously takes on a whole other meaning today. youtu.be/Tl7ejODI2xM?...
