immigrants score the lowest on tests, but they also take all our jobs, while at the same time taking all the welfare and buying all the homes
Stephen Miller: "If you subtract immigration out of test scores, all of the sudden our test scores skyrocket"

What disheartens me most is that the Democrats need to have a shadow government of politicians and lawyers, called, maybe, "The Everything that Needs to Get Done and How We Do It as Quickly as Possible as Soon As We Can committee."
And we all know they don't have that.

what skill did you master that you will never ever use again?

At 47, likely among the youngest architects to have revised an ink on mylar drawing set (badly) in an office setting, with an electric eraser and rapidograph.
Or to have somewhat regularly run blue-line prints on a Diazit machine.
what skill did you master that you will never ever use again?

What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

Archival research feels like it’s full of these, but then there’s always one throwback archive with a microfiche machine or a paper catalogue (or, indeed: NARA)

Probably not a great idea to run the US government as a make-a-wish foundation for your ailing racist uncle.

Just learned that Girl Scouts are called Girl Guides in Canada and once again thinking these two simultaneous thoughts: the various Britishisms of Canada are so precious, and I am a huge American jerkface.

Apparently the Riverhounds will be financing their new stadium on 2026 ticket sales alone?
Black Friday was a BOGO deal as recently as 3-4 years ago. Now face value for midview seat vouchers is $42 a pop w/ no discount. Bummer that I’ll be seeing fewer games with my family at that price.

Wasting time instead of working, and found that in a six day period in early October 2000, I saw:
Jets to Brazil, Hey Mercedes, Will Oldham (and whoever opened, I don't recall), The Dismemberment Plan, and their opener Spoozys, a surf rock band from Japan who wore space suits for their set a la MoAM

Reading a NYT article that used the word, “festooned,” and I knew that every 30-year-old journalist’s and florid-prose-writing realtor’s favorite, “adorned,” couldn’t be far behind.

There it was, nine paragraphs later. Never fails.

A movie that takes place where I’m from.

This movie is set in my hometown, and much of it filmed in the mall where I worked in high school, which will likely be torn down within the year.

I have never seen it.

My 8-year-old found this and requested I put batteries in it. Still works, and you can still only hit the ball by timing the sounds and f the pitch delivery.

Call it my weird hobbyhorse, but hats have lots of names. Everything that is not a ball cap or a cowboy hat is not, by default, a “fedora.”
Yes, this is a fedora shape, but it is clearly a woven straw “Panama hat,” so that common name is right there for you to use to better describe it.

It’s such an obvious point but this is an organization predicated on the idea that it would fight back against Big Government Imposition, rolling over because it likes what’s being imposed. Another example of how shallow so much of the right’s Gadsden-waving Constitution-hugging always was.

Out of curiosity, I checked, the 2024 USAID budget of ~$25 billion is 1/40 of a trillion.
Also, counting from one to a trillion at one number per second would take almost 32,000 years. It is a quantity nearly inconceivable to the human mind.
Something deeply fucked up when you can blindly break basic state functions and condemn millions to death and then people make you the richest man in the world instead of a pariah

Hey @npr.org why am I listening to the ADL head slander Mamdani?
Anyone with eyes and ears can tell Mamdani's "antisemitism" consist only of being a Muslim who supports a free and safe Palestine.
This is a bad look for you. Do better.
