Starting to think the dystopian nightmare that cyberpunk authors came up with in the 1980s was fairly tame compared to what is actually coming...

Before I go on Etsy, are there any laid-off game artists in my follower/repost pool who would be available for a custom DnD party art commission? Four characters, a few special requests, preferably by Christmas? DM me! I have money!

Spent a week at a developer conference and have been thinking non-stop about one thing. I overheard a senior developer proudly talking about using Grok for everything like "How to cook rice". That's where we are at now. Reading instructions to "Boil fucking water" is too much for people to do.

Also, I have no idea how people actually enjoy living and working here... I'm just a dude from the Midwest, but $10 for a simple coffee and the constant barrage of noise and people is just too much.

Well, the 2025 Linux Experiment is over because of heat... My HP laptop has a proprietary fan control lock. Anytime I run something intensive in Linux my temps reach dangerous levels and the fans never kick on. Tried a bunch of apps & scripts, no success, and this is a deal breaker. Back to Win11
And for those curious I've tried Fedora, Fedora KDE, Ubuntu, and Kubuntu. I might give Mint a try just to see if I can get my setup to work. My patience is about gone so I think I'll just avoid Arch and Omarchy.
Trying to switch from Windows to various Linux distros has been a nightmare... Apparently having a thunderbolt dock, multiple monitors on HDMI & DP ports, and an NVidia GPU is a step too far for the development tailored distros...

Friends, we gather to honor the dearly departed icons of the early web. 🖥️⚰️ Though they have vanished from our screens, their spirit endures both in our memory & in the Wayback Machine, preserved across 1 trillion pages of web history.

Finally hit my fed up point with Windows and Google... Whatever update Win11 got last week has been a stability nightmare for my PC, and I am tired of all the Gemini/ AI crap. Installing Fedora Linux tonight but haven't found a "clean" Gmail service alternative. Any recommendations out there?

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

look I do think that the world of cyberpunk poetry wars would suck but it would be cooler than this
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

lately i've been thinking about how LLMs must feel really amazing to use if you're a dumbass, but incredibly frustrating if you're just basically competent in life.
Is AI making job recruitment less meritocratic? We're getting some v interesting research studies on this question now, and the news is... not good. @jburnmurdoch.ft.com & I dive in, in the latest edition of our newsletter The AI Shift www.ft.com/content/e5b7...

Every secondhand James Cameron story sounds like dialogue from 'ARCHER.'

"Awesome guy. We watched Anime together. Also, that time my dad was kidnapped? I called him, he sent me $1 Million and a negotiator. The Marines said he wanted to ride along for the extraction, too - that guy loves to party!"
Y'know, it makes perfect sense that Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron were roommates who introduced each other to Patlabor and Battle Angel Alita.

Took my kid to see Predator Badlands and we loved it! Very fun flick, has some great unexpected moments, lore, & action. And my kid thought it was like watching what a Metroid movie would be. Definitely had some video game boss fight vibes, which was really really cool to see
