This covers both "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" AND "I'll Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)"
Vintage romance comics cover of the day: Heart Throbs #136. I will just make the Meat Loaf joke now before anyone else feels obligated to do so.

Alex Ross straight up stealing Aqualung for a panel in Terminator: The Burning Earth (his first published comic work iirc?)

Escape From LA is hilarious because it's Carpenter being so mad that he has been told he can't smoke inside and spends a whole movie taking it out on Che Guevara and trans people

3. "ICE agents are wearing masks as an intimidation tactic."

I think it's the other way around. THEY are intimidated because they don't want their identies known.

Mostly because they know all decent people regard their actions as evil, and they don't want their spouses/kids to face that disgust.

Gary Groth's excoriation of Superman in his own magazine's issue marking 50 years of Supes. I'm sorry, this is the most adolescent shit.

When I see a skeet like this I always wonder, to whom is the question addressed? It positions the asker as smugly prescient, uniquely and appropriately anxious in a world of people who are presumed to be blithely going about their days ignoring all the bullshit the govt is pulling.

The Deadpool/Batman thing, the more I think about it, Morrison's teased return ending up being this is legit outrageous and seemingly so out of their wheelhouse, I love it

speaking of "comics discourse." proof the internet was a bad idea 1000000
May 25, 2025 at 2:45 AM
and that is a sad comment on "the discourse" more than praise for the book. it's not like it's an inscrutable text or anything
Skipping ahead to my late teens, after a few years of not picking up a single comic. Was talking to @jfsculpts.bsky.social recently about how it's a book that defies the expectations of fans as much as first time readers. The general discourse still drops the ball too

I felt like this a couple times while reading The Adventures of Luthor Arkwright last week. Before the better craftsmen realized that just because you can doesn't mean you should
there's basically no writer in comics, not even a master like alan moore or my goat Grant Morrison, that I want to read multiple paragraphs of text from on a comic page. No comic is worth that. If I'm going to essentially read a book, I'm going to read a real book, not a book by a comic writer.
