I encounter more and more people in real life lately who think AI genuinely is some kind of truth machine and it feels like they are living on a different planet in a way that is just incredibly distressing
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?

My very strong suspicion is that the left/right axis and the fight/don't-fight axis are in the process of unlinking, and that the fight/don't-fight split is emerging as the core struggle in the Democratic Party.
We seriously need to separate the left/right axis from the fight/don’t fight axis.

I am not a pacifist, but I am very, very close, in large part because I think that large groups of people riling each other up to commit violence is the cause of the most horrible things that people have done to each other.
