As state law removes traditional exclusionary mechanisms—i.e. zoning—NIMBYs are increasingly pushing for historic preservation designations that achieve the same ends. We really need reforms to the process here. sfstandard.com/2025/06/30/s...
More SF neighborhoods want to be ‘historic.’ YIMBYs are upset
Neighborhoods seeking historic status have become the latest flashpoint in the intense debate over building more housing in California.

Complaints to the city about real issues? Takes months to resolve, if ever.

Former city councillor gets called out by a sign? Handled overnight on high priority.

When The City says doesn't fix your street or park, it's not that they can't. Its that you aren't a priority.

Edmonton has done more than any other city in Canada to legalize gentle/missing middle density (8 units per lot AOR, no parking minimums) and the results: "across Canada is the only major city on track to build enough housing to get back to pre-pandemic levels of affordability."
This Canadian city has become a leader in building housing. As Toronto debates sixplexes, is there anything it can learn?
As Canada’s biggest city debates sixplexes, Alberta’s capital is on track to meet pre-pandemic affordability targets.

Don’t let anyone tell you that electricity supply (generation) is a barrier to EV transition. That’s simply not true.

Distribution network capacity… now that’s a different story (yet also resolvable). But bulk generation is not a real issue.
Fun with numbers:

Alberta’s 1200MW “temporary cap” on new data centres is the demand equivalent of 3.5 million EVs, or roughly replacing Alberta’s *entire* light duty vehicle fleet.

'Surge' of data centre proposals prompts temporary load cap
A temporary cap on the connection of power-hungry projects to Alberta's grid is needed for electricity system reliability, AESO said.

The only part of the "abundance agenda" that is unpopular is the only part of the "abundance agenda" that has triggered a real world international movement that has scored some actual real world policy wins? Huh.
The "Abundance Agenda" is broadly popular, per our new June Strength In Numbers/ @verasight.bsky.social poll.

The exception is for local zoning reforms.
