I am honoured to announce I’ve been appointed as a member to the Order of Canada. Thank you to everyone for the support! I dedicate this to my late Mom who taught me so much about history, local independent media & research. I know that she would be, like me, screaming with joy! #orderofcanada

The prevailing argument in favor of using AI in media is that it lowers the cost for local news and under-served communities.

But the core of that argument is fundamentally that we should paper over a loss of institutions with a deeply inferior and unreliable product.

People deserve better!

I’m gonna come out and say it: Vancouver is having a spectacular fall.

- Minimal rain
- But also nice CRISP temperatures, puts us in the season
- Summer not too hot, so trees kept their leaves, creating full cover for nice colours
- No elections or giant weather events to distract from joy

Gonna take this opportunity to be the nth person to say 'One Battle After Another' genuinely rocks, and some of the best and wildest 170 minutes of my year. 'Terminator 2' but it's powered by endearing and clumsy-as-all-hell revolutionary washouts, up against some unnervingly timely bad guys.

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

So anyways some advice that I’m glad I finally learned to listen to:

1. You do not need to post. You are not a public figure. People are not waiting for you to weigh in.

2. You can log off (see above).

Takes a lot for me to actually chime into this website, but it's days like today that remind me how emotionally exhausting it is to be in my field.

And it's not even mainly because what was on the news today.

Nor was I even working today.
