Many years ago, I was feeling stressed by the state of the world and I started a Holiday Fairies thing where people sent me their wishlists and I publicized them to try to get everyone gifts for the holidays.

@shelflove.bsky.social skillfully took it over and made it An Actual Thing!

Like SRSLY!

So I have had caffeine, iron and B-12 today. Normally they make me energetic. Not today. My body decide that the proper response was napping. Bodies are weird.

Swedish iron age historian: "All Viking age dogs shorter than 40 cms were just pets."
Me: Yeah. No. That's wrong. A) All domestic animals were way smaller in the Viking age. B) Dachshund and Svensk Vallhund already existed then.

y'all can't even stand up to Schumer and Durbin.
Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".

But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.

So i spent the weekend at the cottage filled with chaos and fun. Sick niece, cranky toddler nephew, a grumpy older nephew. Oh and the kitchen light didn't work.
But also fun with football with the nephew, reading for the toddler and thrifting.
Here is hoping that I don't get my niece's infection.

Dinner was tasty... until I bit into a piece of beef that had that soil-y taste when something has started going bad. No idea if it was the beef or if I missed something. sigh. Not keeping the leftovers, though. Dang it.
