Oh, A pinned post! I'm Céilí Braidwood, a comics artist and illustrator with a background in animation and Japanese. I make a lot of zines and comics and I'm currently working on my first Graphic Novel! (It's all about the legends, folktales, and history of one little cave in the middle of Ireland!)
A four panel comic showing landscapes of sea, caves, forest, and the night sky. the words read, 'The philosopher Thales believed that 'all things are full of gods' the sea, the earth, the trees, and the stars, and you. a comic panel done in ink and watercolour, it shows a girl spinning underwater in togs, surrounded by a torrent of words; 'the current is too strong, I feel oddly calm , at peace, swirling, I guess this is it, I'm stuck, No escape, spinning, a maelstrom, caught here.' An illustration showing two dragons looking at each other with love, one big and green, the other small and blue. They might be parent and child. A pile of different zines with a variety of names done in ink and pencil.

Hello! I've been one of the lucky few on the BIA these last few years, and in light of the uncertainty of its future and potential for public support, I decided to write out this comic with the help of BIA compatriot @ianfay.bsky.social to share our stories. 1/3

ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/run...
Ken: Hey, I'm Ken.

Ian: And I'm Ian. We're both in receipt of the B.I.A. (Basic Income For the Arts) Ken: Our last payment is in February 2026. The future of the scheme is uncertain, but we're here to talk about the past and what we've accomplished these past three years.

Ian: Thanks to the B.I.A, I have expanded my skill set and learned 3D sculpting. I bought a 3D printer to make hand painted toys of my own designs. Ian: I can afford to repair it and spent thousands in the local economy continuing to grow and create.

Ken: As for me, I've been self-publishing small books for a while, but I now have the means to release larger books, which also gave me the confidence to run two different crowdfunding campaigns. Ken: Without it, and after failing to return to animation, I was going to start a career in I.T. I was in a bad place with no hope for the future, but almost overnight, the B.I.A made my long struggling passion into a real livelihood. Nowadays, I can travel for events, sustain car expenses and socialise without managing my spending. In darker times, I was about to pay all the vet bills for my dying cat.

The BIA would be a huge help to me this coming year and beyond, so I'd love it to continue as there's a possibility I won't be able to make art at the amount I currently do.

You can access the survey right here ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/run...
Until Friday September Fifth, there is a public consultation on the future of the Basic Income for the Arts scheme.

I encourage you to make your thought's known. I've only shared my own and one of the few I know also on the scheme, but our stories are not unique. Many of us have dramatically improved artistic output and quality of life.
In these uncertain times we want to push for this to continue, to take on a larger cohort. The cost to fund these artists has proven to be neutral to the economy and we all end up spending more if we're not struggling to make ends meet. Continuing would only enrich our lives and keep Ireland's rich artistic history charging forward.

Just search "public consultation B I A 2025" or visit the link I post below.

This is an amazing scheme that has had huge benefit to many artists I know by removing the fear of absolute poverty from their lives.

We all love art on a daily basis, so a little public support for them in this guise benefits everyone. I urge you to complete this form!

There's a REALLY quick and easy survey for the public consultation on the Basic Income for the Arts scheme - it only takes a few seconds, anyone can fill it in, and it could make a huge difference to arts workers in Ireland. Take a few ticks to places a few ticks here: ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/run...
Screenshot of the first two questions in the survey - there's only six to answer.

Orla Bard has a monster inside her. She seeks out the worst men in the dating pool, and if they push her too far… they get fed to The Ick.

Art by @sallycantirino.bsky.social, colours by @dearbhlala.bsky.social, letters by @letteringbear.bsky.social. ORLA! #1, out now from @madcavestudios.com!
The Ick, a huge, ceiling-height, purple-furred monster with horns and a mouth full of razor teeth, and also Orla Bard's blonde hair, looms over a screaming man.

Support artists! But also use the box at the end of the survey to advocate for good-life sustaining Basic Income to be extended to disabled people next, and UBI for everyone after that!

There’s a public survey open for the general public to give input as to whether the Basic Income for the Arts scheme should continue.

I implore you to take the 2 mins to fill out this survey and call for the BIA scheme to be continued and further developed.

Irish artists/ supporters of the arts, please check out and fill in this short survey. The Gript/ far right dudes are already sharing it on X and I'd be worried it'll get brigaded.

If we want it to be retained and expanded we gotta drown them out.

Right. This is serious. 🌼🐝

Help me raise at least £1000 for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust‬ by donating to my campaign to draw 1000+ bumblebees in as short of time as I can (around 3 hours)

If more than £1000 is raised, I'll draw #bees to match the amount.

Barely an hour ago, Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif warned us all:

“If this madness doesn’t end, Gaza will be reduced to ruins, its people’s voices silenced, their faces erased — and history will remember you as silent witnesses to a genocide you chose not to stop.”

Israel just killed him.

I think I’ll reach end of season 2 this year in my quest to draw every Simpsons character ever so I might as well reshare this collection of every season 1 character before I have no need for it ever again.
