New Jersey jury pools and juries are extremely unrepresentative, because the state has excluded hundreds of thousands with past convictions. An estimated *25%* of Black N.J. adults have been banned from jury service.

Gov. Murphy just ordered major reform on this. I wrote about it in @boltsmag.org:

Jacob Frey told ICE agents to get the fuck out of Minneapolis, a hugely popular viral moment, and the media has been browbeating him over it ever since. Trump flipped a guy off and told him fuck you and it’s barely acknowledged.

this, driving a person to suicide because they had the temerity to want to work in public service, is what russ vought hoped to accomplish
“One day, a woman wrote to me on Signal, asking me not to respond. She lived alone, she messaged, and planned to die that weekend. Before she did, she wanted at least one person to understand: Trump had unraveled the government, and with it, her life.” @hannahnatanson.bsky.social essay:

The First Amendment protects the public’s right to:

1. Film ICE in public

2. Photograph ICE in public

3. Observe what ICE does in public

ICE and DHS officials cannot lay a finger on any American who is peacefully exercising First Amendment rights.

I simply do not want to hear about the birthrate while people are dying because the law obstructs their care:
NEW: After doctors sent her home with a racing heart, Ciji Graham came to believe the best way to protect her health was to end her pregnancy.

But new restrictions in NC and nearby states made finding an abortion provider difficult.

In a state that had legislated its commitment to life, Graham spent her final days struggling to find anyone to save hers.

It annoys me to no end that no matter how many examples people give that when women have economic options they choose to have fewer kids, people are still convinced that there's a magic social safety net switch that will increase birthrates.

Hi perhaps you would like a little break from the news in the form of an essay about my trip to Centralia, Pennsylvania, the town that’s been on fire since 1962—a place where surprisingly I found a great deal of hope, wonder, and mystery.
The Rebirth of Pennsylvania’s Infamous Burning Town
Sixty years into the fire that left the town condemned, Centralia is now a haven for wild plants and butterflies.

Might be a good time to send a donation to Unraveled. (I just did.)
It's 10am in Minneapolis and rapid response is underwater, reports of chemicals deployed already.

As others have pointed out, the ratio of feds (with more arriving) to residents and square mileage here is extreme compared to what we experienced in Chicago.

We are in freefall.

In this video agents tell a woman to move, which she starts to do and then stops because a white haired woman was crossing the street (in a cross walk!) in front her. They then reach into her car making it unsafe (to them) for her to drive. It's honestly impossible to comply with these people.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.
