you know one thing dems do not need and have never needed overwhelming majorities to do is to stop talking about republicans as their respectable colleagues who they hope will do the right thing and the fever will break any minute now, and to start talking about them as enemies who must be defeated
A lot of people are mad at Schumer for saying this. But he's right. Democrats don't control a single branch of government and they can't pass anything. Only Republicans can rein in Trump because they control both chambers of Congress. Democrats have no cards to play here.

Please don't fall for left-rage bait posting.

Not to question axios' integrity, but three unnamed "sources" expressing their opinions means exactly nothing.

Few things help the right more than the left staying mad at Dems.
Some Democrats hate that their party is largely positioning itself in opposition to the operation that resulted in Maduro's capture.

"Everything Trump touches must be bad according to the base," one House Dem told @axios.com

Said another: "It looks weak." www.axios.com/2026/01/04/m...

You can stand, mouth agape, wondering why nothing seems normal.

It's because the revolution already happened and the bad guys have won.
absolutely bizarre to see a violent, rogue american regime, which is threatening military attacks on a bunch of major trading partners and close allies, and openly fantasizing about hitler-style wars of territorial conquest, covered in the tone of horse-race political commentary

I guess we can add "soldiers disobeying illegal orders" to the top of the list of things that aren't going to save us.
Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

Empathy is by far the biggest annual deficit we incur.
Funny how there’s always “no money” for health care, food, or housing—until ICE needs billions. Then the vault swings open. If cruelty had a budget line, this would be it.

I told him it was propaganda, he said it wasn't, and then I basically yelled at him to read newspapers local to the events.

And to Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, he was a second father. However, this was before Inigo’s wound reopened, and Westley relapsed again, and Fezzik took the wrong turn, and Buttercup’s horse threw a shoe. And the night behind them was filled with the crescendoing sound of pursuit….

By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).
