Black history reminds us that progress doesn't happen by waiting—it happens by showing up, lifting each other, and moving forward together.

Wisconsin is electing all of its sheriffs this year, and several swing counties, such as Kenosha and Sauk, are currently run by sheriffs who have signed on to a key program to collaborate with ICE.
In Criminal Justice Elections This Year, ICE Contracts Are on the Hot Seat
With roughly 2,400 elections for prosecutor and sheriff in 2026, Bolts reviews the map and early hotspots that will shape criminal punishment and law enforcement practices.

So there was just a very loud and sustained "Fuck ICE" chant during a pro wrestling show on live primetime television, if you wanna get a sense of the vibe shift.

(One of the wrestlers, Brody King, is an outspoken prigressive and wore an "Abolish ICE" shirt at a Mexico show in June.)

Oh look, some enterprising reporter spent a bunch of time with the Taylor Rehmet campaign and wrote about it in the context of the regional, far-right politics!
Union-backed Dem Taylor Rehmet nearly pulled off a stunning upset in November — almost winning a deep-red TX Senate seat over two billionaire-funded Republicans. He's now in a runoff with a fixture of the Texas far right. My latest, from Tarrant County, a bellwether and hub of Christian nationalism:
In Tarrant County, a Hub for the Far Right, a Democrat Seeks a Major Upset
In a runoff election for Texas Senate District 9, which has not elected a Democrat since 1991, Taylor Rehmet is betting his pro-labor message can flip disillusioned voters.

no fan of jeffries, but holy shit is this article misleading. in the press briefing he calls for "a prohibition that DHS cannot *detain* or deport American citizens", and his focus throughout the briefing is on the detainment part
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Thursday said House Democrats will demand a ban on the deportation of American citizens as a condition of winning their support for legislation funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Can you guess what that song title is?

"Fuck ICE."

No kidding. Search on YouTube or Apple Music or Spotify.

Sooooo many of them.

The civil rights movement benefitted from the nation’s eyes and ears being tuned to the abuse and injustice on the ground. Press can be vetted. Attention is good. You don’t have to give away every detail of your actions.
The local rapid response policy, which I first learned today when I was permanently removed, is “No press allowed ever.” I just think this is incredibly short-sighted and almost intrinsically self-defeating. Who are we observing FOR?

Kicking people out and declaring press attention bad is how movements die
I’m not totally sure how to address this but apparently I’m getting kicked out of ICE rapid response for the moment because I’m allowing press ridealongs, with an extremely strict condition that no other observer be identified. Lots of observers have allowed ridealongs and they benefit us.
