That is a heck of a twist
A story I found about Haiti:

In 1999, a group of Haitians were tired of political disorder and dreamed of a better life in the United States. So they built a small, 23-foot boat by hand using pine trees, scrap wood, and used nails. They called the boat "Believe in God."

This is the top headline on CNN. A good warning sign that your country may be becoming a dictatorship is when your plain-jane straight news networks start saying “Our country is becoming a dictatorship”

Defending the Earth is deadly work. A new report illuminates how much.

Nearly 150 land and environment defenders were killed or disappeared last year, most for standing up to mining and logging.

Freelance illustration gigs drying up. Ad agencies using Midjourney instead of hiring human artists. Costume design turned over to AI wholesale. Good work vanishing.

These are the stories of working visual artists, who describe losing jobs, wages, and hope as their clients and bosses embrace AI.

Visual artists, illustrators and graphic designers share their stories about how AI is being used to lower wages, degrade work and even replace it altogether, in this installment of AI Killed My Job.

Friendly reminder:

Charlie Kirk advocated for stoning gay people to death.
He said that trans people were an "abomination to god" and that people needed to "take care of that like they did in the 50's and 60's."
He lied about Antisemetic conspiracies.

And he did all this to impressionable teens.

1/ U.S. officials in Europe this week argued that climate policy is “ideological” and a drag on prosperity. The evidence suggests the opposite.

Climate ‘Ideology’ Hurts Prosperity, Top U.S. Officials Tell Europeans
Chris Wright, the energy secretary, said he would push Europe to loosen environmental rules and buy more gas. Doug Burgum, the interior secretary, tied fossil fuels to a need to win the A.I. race.

I wrote about the large number of incorrect or just plain weird claims from Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s X account.

It’s starting to influence how actual energy professionals perceive the Department of Energy, I argue:

We still have the power both to limit the nonlinearity of the planetary crisis we face, and to ruggedize our society's critical systems and institutions against thase nonlinear impacts.

Those engaged in predatory delay are driving efforts to worsen the crisis and undermine response, for profit.
“Massive nonlinear events in the global environment give rise to massive nonlinear societal events.”

We still fail to incorporate this reality in our thinking.

The climate crisis is the context in which everything else is happening.

Kind of amazing how narrative peddled about Trump pivoted in an instant from Nobel-worthy peacemaker to Churchillian wartime leader. The only thing the two myths have in common is how absurd both are.

i understand why biden thought MAGA was a temporary fever that the GOP could get over but i genuinely think that hypothesis has been falsified and we are now stuck with a world where there's a bunch of people raised to support illiberal rightist forces
One of the problems with having a profoundly anti-intergenerational elite is that it honestly does not occur to them that people below a certain age literally have no memory of what they think is the normalcy we can supposedly return to
