You restacked Inigo Laguda Dec 10 piers morgan's interview with nick fuentes is renaissance art. a parabolic tragedy wrought digital. a frankensteinian horror in podcast form. the olo man suspends his war on wokeness to feign disgust at a sardonic, younger class clown who's empathetic nerve endings have been burnt off. the younger man dodges every smug finger-wag and sour-faced lecture with acrobatic precision because he understands that the terrain of the circus has changed. the old man is too self-absorbed to understand that he isn't putting a lesser being in his place. his hubris forbids him from recognising that he is losing the room to his own philosophical offspring. where the old man has resisted progress, dedicated his own "freedom of speech" to skewering the "left", shitting on trans women and denying the existence of nonbinary people at every given opportunity-the young man lunges further to welcome regression. he sees his father as a coward. a fraying man who doesn't go far enough. the young man exercises his own "freedom of speech" to call for the rollback of women's rights and denies the holocaust as an instrument of "the global jewry" (and more). this "horrifies" the old man, who gawks at the young man as if it is a mystery where he came from. yet, their uncanny resemblance even extends to how they look. the old man gets to pretend that he's exposing the young man's atrocious nature to the world when the truth is that he's simply platformed the genetic consequence of his own reasoning. the student surpasses the master in 1080p. the old man either can't recognise, or pretends not to recognise, that the monster in front of him is from his own, paltry loins. Andrew Kadel @DrewKadel@social.coop My daughter, who's had a degree in computer science for 25 years, posted this about ChatGPT on Facebook. It's the best description I've seen. Something that seems fundamental to me about ChatGPT, which gets lost over and over again: When you enter text into it, you're asking "What would a response to this sound like?" If you put in a scientific question, and it comes back with a response citing a non-existent paper with a plausible title, using a real journal name and an author name who's written things related to your question, it's not being tricky or telling lies or doing anything at all surprising! This is what a response to that question would sound like! It did the thing! But people keep wanting the "say something that sounds like an answer" machine to be doing something else, and believing it *is* doing something else. It's good at generating things that sound like responses to being told it was wrong, so people think that it's engaging in introspection or looking up more information or something, but it's not, it's only, ever, saying something that sounds like the next bit of the conversation.

looking up the source of quotes, whether for a book or a video script, is great for figuring out when a quote everyone "knows" and has repeated for ages is actually just weird bullshit someone else made up

This is a really good point that I had not run into before: these "creators" have no further insight into their alleged creation than the average audience member and that is why it cannot be called art (besides all the other obvious reasons).

"You Need Al Skills Today To Be Ready For The Future"/"The Future Belongs To Those Who Know AI" So, you've probably seen a lot of stuff — maybe even in your own workplace! — about how you're gonna need Al skills in the future, because, uh. Well, you're gonna need them, and you're gonna get left behind if you don't have them. If anybody ever says this to you, please ask them to be specific, because at this point I'm not even confident I can make up a task that Al can do for me. In fact, here's a simple one: please name me somebody who has gotten significantly better at their job using Al. One person you know. One. Just one. Try it. I am, in theory, exactly the person who should be getting the most out of Al. I write a lot. I research a lot. I constantly have to keep an eye on stuff. I pull stuff out of large piles of data. I think I make like 500 searches a week, I'm a complete animal. I talk back and forth with my editor Matt Hughes constantly to brainstorm ideas. So why don't I use Al? Surely it would be perfect, right? Nope! Al is a terrible researcher. I've used everything from Al mode on Google to the most expensive generative search engines available for large hedge funds, and in 99.9% of cases I've found nothing new or interesting or novel. That edge case was one time when a search engine pulled up a single quote from an earnings statement. Once. One time. So, what do people mean by "Al skills"? Prompt engineering. They mean "how can you get this product that's sold and hyped as a panacea for every informational problem to do the thing that it's meant to do," and the answer is usually "it can't do it, but the way to get it close is to find nuanced ways to ask it to do stuff." In a very real sense, "Al skills training" is actually Al training you - making you fill in the gaps, making you do the work that this alleged "intelligence" does.
