I will never use LLM for anything to do with my writing. Even my research is driven by good research practice, not AI. Why would I? I like the work. If you don't like doing the work, ask yourself why you're not actually doing something you do like to do, instead.

Right now, I’m much more worried about the social and cultural impacts of AI.

What is it going to do to critical thinking, media, civil discourse, and disinformation?

I’m worried about *brain pollution* from AI, not so much the carbon pollution.

This is potentially one of the most transformational policies this government has done if it holds its nerve.

There's also the small matter that British schoolboys wanted to be on Churchill's side.
The argument here is that because the war was still a big subject in 1970s playgrounds, this excuses Farage's gross behaviour at the time. No, Farage went way beyond anything I remember - which was more about air-shooting phantom Nazis invading the school grounds

do you think anyone in the near future will explain to Trump that if he wants other countries to up their spending on defence (in absolute terms!) then adopting policies that lower everyone's growth rate is not all that smart?

We can't let British democracy turn into a plaything for overseas billionaires with short attention spans.

At PMQs, I urged the Prime Minister to work with us to make sure power always sits with the voters, not wealthy foreign oligarchs.

It is hard for public institutions to change gear and communication policies. But consider this: UK and German public institutions that post information on twitter but not on bluesky are providing free benefits and competitive advantages to a platform that aims to put the far right in power.

The state this man has left Tadcaster in is a disgrace. It’s not just commercial properties that are empty but homes too, with some empty for my entire life. It’s appalling. No one should have as much power over an entire town as Smith does.

Hunter Biden would not have been prosecuted in the first place if he wasn’t the President’s son. And he only gets a pardon because he’s the President’s son. Seems fair.

This glorious autumn morning. Bircher muesli and blackberries for breakfast, pink cyclamen and white anemones open in the garden. Golden light through the fig tree. Refreshingly nippy too. A day to cherish.

I don‘t understand how people can be so sure about either candidate "winning“ or "losing“ the presidential debate. When politics are deeply polarized, &voters increasingly inhabit parallel universes, the answer is entirely subjective. If objectivity was still a thing, Trump wouldn‘t be a candidate.

there is no technological or material obstacle that prevents us from building streets like this in the united states, only the rules we've stupidly imposed on ourselves to favor the needs of cars over the needs of human beings.
