Oregon Coast reply guy born the month Japan surrendered, a lot of things have changed since then. Failed family guy w/computer jobs. My hope is for the deep future more than anything I see around here but working and hoping for a soft landing.
certainly current AIs are not Persons they merely reflect a "view from nowhere," a mirror of the users and their desire.

But if you say that nothing other than a Human can contain "the richness" of Personhood ... is biology is not a material process? Or is the essence an immaterial soul? Or what??
“If we conflate the richness of biological brains & human experience with the information-processing machinations of deepfake-boosted chatbots, or whatever the latest AI wizardry is, we do our minds, brains & bodies a grave injustice.”

The Mythology Of Conscious AI | NOEMA
Why consciousness is more likely a property of life than of computation and why creating conscious, or even conscious-seeming AI, is a bad idea.

the stupidest thing that I don't understand about the present conservative movement is that it is entirely based on sticking together WHERE WE GO ONE WE GO ALL around whatever is loud in the noise regardless of self-consistency, policy implications, basic doability or least of all self-interest.

the Pussy Hat Movement was a very Feminist response
I’ll never understand people whose entire political belief system is based on whether or not they find a form of protest annoying or cringey rather than if they agree with the point of the protest
Immense skill issue to not have found this immediately obvious in 2016

Following Venezuela and in light of Rubio's personal crusade against Cuba, progressives in the US need to catch up on solidarity with the country their government has blockaded for over half a century. In 2024 I wrote for @sojo.net about how Christians can start.

they can't ever make a simple arrest without dogpiling people to the ground and setting up a perimeter like real gijoes

intimidation is what they do and warfare is where they want to go

Shocking to me that since Trump came to power again the willingness of a market based on contract law to collectively yawn for more than a year now about contract abrogation and outright theft by the global hegemon.

The ground beneath their feet is giving way, to quote Schumpeter.
