Really enjoyed this read from The Athletic’s Don Pompei on Charles Tillman, the Peanut Punch and why he quit the FBI: www.nytimes.com/athletic/689...
After Charles Tillman transformed football, he joined the FBI. Then the immigration raids started
Known for his signature “Peanut Punch” in the NFL, the ex-Bears cornerback found a new calling as a federal agent. So why did he walk away?

Oil proceeds are going into a private account in Qatar that US Treasury cannot block. The entire arrangement is grotesquely illegal and corrupt. Rubio's answers are dissembling. And we can't seemingly even get intelligent questions for him. bsky.app/profile/atru...
Marco Rubio: "The oil proceeds are being deposited into an account that ultimately will become a US Treasury blocked account here in the US. We will say 'this is what this money can be spent on.' They will submit to us a budget request -- 'we want to use the money on these things.'"

This is just misleading. There is a big difference between saying state resources can’t be used to enforce fed’l civil immigration policy & local cops refusing to assist fed’l partners in an emergency. Deliberately conflating the two is disingenuous.

With Greg Bovino being shown the door

A reminder of how he and Kristi Noem have been in lockstep in responding to Alex Pretti's murder⬇️ (and what lead up to it).
Wow. Greg Bovino and Kristi Noem literally saying the exact same thing.

And the Kavanaugh stops are everywhere. And the Trump administration believes they can now ensnare virtually anyone, Kristi Noem told us earlier this month. www.lawdork.com/p/noem-says-...
Noem says that virtually anyone could face a Kavanaugh stop
Trump started off the day with an Insurrection Act threat. DHS Sec. Noem followed up by saying that anyone "surrounding" any DHS target has to prove their legal status.

Reminder that, as of the latest reports, Liam Ramos is still in prison in Texas - now for 5 days.

His parents are legal asylum seekers with no criminal record.

Ah yes, we're going to be prosecuted under 18 USC § 111 (a)(3), which states "Whosoever . . . gains an unfair advantage over federal law enforcement through disciplined communication and relentless neighborhood organizing shall be imprisoned for not more than 20 years."

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

Assumption - level of panic we're seeing from White House today coming from 1) growing GOP defections 2) bad polling

Two polls released today showed real movement against Trump:
Reuters/Ipsos 41%-58% (-17) to 38%-59% (-21)
Echelon 45%-55% (-10) to 41%-57% (-16)

The political press very clearly understands “truth” as a social agreement, a compromise position between everyone important enough to have an opinion. It did not reflect on how this would allow dedicated liars to go all-in on lies again and again and dramatically shift the position.
my emerging theory is that the political press literally does not believe in objective reality in any meaningful sense. there is only what A says and what B says and how that affects the horse race

This morning, I recorded a video on TikTok about why DHS’s arguments for the power to enter homes without judicial warrants in immigration cases are bunk.

Nine hours later, TikTok still says my video is “under review,” and can’t be shared.

Well, here’s a link:

During the Soviet era, at times of govt instability, the state broadcaster would typically preempt scheduled broadcasts by airing performances of Swan Lake
And, tonight, the network's flagship news program -- 60 Minutes -- ran a clip show of old celeb interviews to "celebrate the movies" rather than put together an episode focused on what's going on in Minnesota.
The person who publishes the Free Press — where the words “Minneapolis” and “Minnesota” never appear tonight — also runs CBS News.

Are Federal Officials Immune From State Prosecution?
Contrary to recent assertions, federal officers do not have blanket immunity from criminal prosecutions brought by states.
