Good job. You picked up some fire flowers. They allow you to take out enemies at a distance while grounded. You can only have two fireballs out at a time, but if you're up close you'll be able to rapid fire. How you use it, well that's up to you.

In Super Mario World, green berries increase the timer. By strategically eating them to make the timer pass 100 multiple times, the music can be sped up repeatedly. It turns out that the music engine cannot handle more than 20 speed-ups, and slows down to a crawl instead.

Anyway I remembered when I crashed out about this on twitter after I discovered how incredible PCSX2's software render is and how much better DMC3 looks in native res/blur vs clean upscaled

I'm gonna have to write some unhinged manifesto in favor of all things Standard Definition cause while we've made strides in respecting pixel art, its crazy what we keep doing to older 3D games. The underlying technology may be flexible, but pushing sliders has consequences Upping the resolution takes breathtaking works of art and turns them into cheap toys with every seam and computational artifice laid bare but we consider it an "objective upgrade" (and this is proper emulation at 1080p, its *fine* but don't get me started on the HD collection) We as a society must study the black magic behind this PS2 glow and why it doesn't hit as well past a certain resolution. The rendering calculation may be the same in code but at 480i it just blows out the image in such a raw way, like blowing out a sensor Not to mention how the lower res helps the low poly stuff blend in, that part of what I mean by "seams". You have to do a lot of surface and modeling work to get higher resolutions to make sense and of course a PS2 game won't have that, but it doesn't *need* to And sure these things WERE limitations back in the day, but limitation or not its the parameters they worked with an optimized for. The resolution slider can be cranked up nowadays, BUT WHY WOULD YOU. I don't need to see whats outside the mona lisa's frame and GOD don't get me started on aspect ratio and widescreen hacks

It hurts me so much to see fucking, N64 games upscaled so everything is full of pixelated obvious billboards like a shitty paper diorama instead of them blending in convincingly

—To begin with, VF is known for having a huge number of motions and a high degree of complexity. Yamada: That’s right. As long as that complexity is preserved, I think we can keep experimenting with various approaches to broaden the game’s appeal. That’s why we’re keeping foot positioning, for example. From the perspective of fighting-game players, it’s one of those confusing elements that just adds more stuff to memorize. But for people unfamiliar with fighters, it’s a “Wow, they even care about those kinds of details? That’s awesome” kind of element. The fact that stance affects the number of combos to learn really only matters to players at the top level. So even though it’s technically a complex mechanic, it doesn’t necessarily narrow the game’s entry point as much as you might think. During playtests, we ask people with zero VF experience about such things, and they respond with “That looks fun,” or “I didn’t know it had things like that.” Meanwhile, long-time fans express concern or give feedback, but the “beginner” imagined by veteran players is often nowhere near an actual beginner. We realized that many of the things veterans assume beginners worry about are things beginners aren’t even thinking about. It reminded us that we need to look at things from a more neutral perspective.

An RE4 inventory case in FF7 menu style is full of weird swords. An error says the inventory is too full for the key item Black Materia. Cloud pleads with Tifa that he can't sell the swords yet because they are still increasing in collector value.
