An ominous precedent:

"Richard Hughes IV, who teaches vaccine law at George Washington University Law School, said he cannot recall a previous time when an HHS secretary overruled the advisory committee and the CDC."

What will he change next?
Breaking news: Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is ending his agency's recommendation that healthy pregnant women and healthy children receive the coronavirus vaccine.

The effects of Covid in pregnancy are devastating and preventable by vaccination; now we have strong data from Penn Medicine that vaccines protect children and adolescents from long Covid

+ ignores substantial evidence regarding the benefits of vaccination for older adults & immunocompromised people who live in multi-generational households, &/or have family members who work in the service industry or attend school
A huge step from HHS that is at odds with science showing significant risks for young children and pregnant women — and that directly contradicts *the FDA's own publication* from last week listing pregnancy as a high-risk condition that would qualify people for this fall's Covid vaccine

If you missed this Business Insider article about the company tracking abortion pill prescriptions, fix that immediately. This is exactly the kind of reporting we need right now. www.businessinsider.com/abortion-med...
Abortion pill prescriptions are now being tracked in parts of the US — with help from a little-known tech company
Louisiana has started monitoring abortion pills. Some other states are likely to follow suit. It could have disastrous consequences for patients.

Not to downplay this hideous shit, but this is what's being done to families all the time -- that's why there are "migrant releases," where they fly or drive dozens of people with nothing but literally the clothes on their back thousands of miles from their hearings and dump them on the sidewalk
The government claims Mahmoud Khalil was already in NJ on his way to Louisiana by the time his habeas petition was filed—an argument that the NY federal court lacks jurisdiction.

But Khalil's lawyer checked the ICE locator when she filed and even 4 hrs after, and he was listed as still being in NY.

I am back with the next installment of the Voices of Gaza.

I am trying to post more often this Ramadan, as Israel is violating the terms of its ceasefire, and to keep people's lives and stories top of mind.

Today I am sharing the story of Samah, a single mother of four. 1/

To be fair, most Americans viewed Trump as ridiculous as a presidential candidate before his first run. Even Trump supporters viewed Project 2025 as beyond ridiculous. My point is, most Americans not taking it seriously doesn't mean it's not serious. See Covid.

Because most of these bills are about a very wealthy and abusive group of people ( OF ALL GENDERS)

trying to control their kids

and the only way to control their kids is tomato any avenue of separation from them painful .
What started as a misguided attempt to protect minors from "explicit" content online has spiraled into a tangled mess of privacy-invasive surveillance schemes affecting skincare products, dating apps, and even diet pills, threatening everyone’s right to privacy.
From skincare to dating apps, age verification bills are creeping into unexpected places, and the privacy risks are growing.

"US immigration ripped my soul from me when they handcuffed my husband and forced him into an unmarked vehicle. Instead of putting together our nursery and washing baby clothes…I am left sitting in our apartment, wondering when Mahmoud will get a chance to call me from a detention center."

The difficult part is how disability and chronic illness are used as justification for Ai. The community wants and needs it for medical applications, accessibility and early detection.

We don’t want generative Ai. Disabled people need imagination to survive, why would we need it to create?
Flyers and posters at the radiologist’s office (standard checkup) about how they use AI to detect cancer and the (justified) public hysteria around it has me having to remind myself this is the GOOD kind of AI that actually saves lives and is an enormous step forward in medicine and not evil

The landmark decision could help other transgender people in jails and prisons who have been denied access to hormone treatment, a violation of their constitutional rights.
