The rate of sepsis in Houston surged 63% after Texas banned abortion.

In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where hospital leaders empowered doctors to intervene before patients’ conditions worsened, it rose 29%.

Why Hospital Policies Matter in States That Ban Abortion
Our first-of-its-kind data analysis found that a seismic split emerged in how medical institutions in Texas' two largest metro areas, Houston and Dallas, treated miscarrying patients — and in their ou...

Alberta: Did you know that…

AB Public Ed is the lowest funded in the whole country?

In 2022, the UCP funded Charter Schools at $42.3M of your taxpayer $ (no other province funds Charters).

By 2024, that amount had risen to $408M, an increase of 844%.

Watch as this LAPD cop takes deliberate aim at an Australian reporter, then shoots her at close range. I would fire the police chief over this. Inexcusable thuggery.

How do EVs perform in cold temperature? They work great, as in start without incident. But yes, the range suffers.

Here's a plot of the average "km per kwh" of 100 vehicles in Calgary Alberta over the course of a year (paper coming).

From just over 6km per kWh in the summer to 4-5 in the winter.

This is a very damning and worrying study by provincial scientists. It demands a response from Minister Schulz. If we already have unsafe levels of selenium in Crowsnest Lake from legacy coal mines why are we looking at additional mines? @cpawssab.bsky.social #abpoli
News Release: Alberta silent on government science showing selenium makes Crowsnest fish unsafe to eat
“Any new development of coal mining along the eastern slopes may well push the Crowsnest fishery beyond recovery.”

Albertans have good reason to be angry: their real wages are down 10%, their minimum wage is frozen, their inflation is worst in Canada, their health care's at risk. None of that was caused by the rest of Canada. My take in today's @TorontoStar: www.thestar.com/business/opi.... #cdnecon
Jim Stanford: Let’s drop the phoney Alberta versus Canada nonsense. The province has met the enemy — and it is them
During the so-called decade of federal 'attacks on oil,' Alberta oil giants set records for production and profits, writes Jim Stanford. So why is the average Albertan not getting their

It's all we've been saying& MORE in one tidy package

There’s never been more oil wealth generated despite the Libs in Ottawa

There is no province where real incomes&living standards have deteriorated more in the past decade than AB

The UCP is facing 8 investigations into corruption, plus no fewer than 3 major public sector union strikes (all of their own making).

The affordability crisis looms, as does a trade war with the US.

Wildfires & measles are raging.

And the premier chose now to clear a path for a separation vote.

Loud voices might make you think otherwise, but Albertans are more committed to Canada, not less:

"While 22% identify primarily as Albertan, more than 3/4 see themselves as Canadian... support for an Alberta-first identity [is below the 28%] found in 2020."

One in four people in Alberta identify as Albertans first, Canadians second, Nanos poll finds
But poll also suggests that voluble separatist forces in the province only represent small fraction of the population

I am so thrilled to have voted for @coreyhogan.ca in the hopes that we have a level headed, Albertan voice in Ottawa. It's looking promising for #yyc that we may have a voice in government.

This is not an island in shark infested waters, but a beachhead for sanity.

I had to check if this was real. It is.

We have a US president lobbying our annexation, who's threatened economic force to do so. Unprecedented.

Today we're choosing who fights for this country. Who stands up for Canada & resists the right-wing populism that led our neighbour to this place. Vote.

Lots of talk about strategic voting in Calgary Confederation.

Your vote is your vote, and there's no such thing as a wasted vote. But this is a close race between myself and Jeremy Nixon. Working together, we can get a different kind of representation for Calgary Confederation.

Your daily reminder: America is no longer a democracy. Everyone stops needing to talk about "democratic decline" or "heading to a constitutional crisis". We're there. Pure fascism is here. The United States is right now the greatest threat to global democracy of our lifetimes.
This is, without even the slightest exaggeration, literally the stuff of authoritarian/fascist regimes.

There is a fundamental reason why forms (including uni-forms) matter in rule of law states. Forms help the public identify lawful action from unlawful activities (like kidnapping). /1
