I think it's important to note that employers have long used the threat of deportation this way. Also to not pay workers. What's changed is more people are emboldened to do it.
Relative of a family friend got swept up by ICE. The reason? He had a disagreement with his manager. Manager called ICE. ICE picked him up in front of the entire undocumented staff, as a fucking warning.

The general conclusion of the Trump-Vance uproar in the White House today appears to be that they planned this as a provocation against President Zelensky & Ukraine to stand up for Putin & Russia because of complalnts against Zelensky's misbehavior.
