Just looking at the countries which have qualified for the World Cup next year so far.

Will be very interesting to see the warm welcome that host President Trump extends to countries like Iran, Colombia and South Africa...

And Haiti, Panama and Iraq could still qualify as well. Interesting.

This. Thisity this.

The original Agile Manifesto history refers to "...a developer community freed from the baggage of Dilbertesque corporations." (agilemanifesto.org/history.html and agilemanifesto.org/principles.h...).

Guess what? Those corporations just brought the baggage back in.

Best threads on Bluesky.
Good news. The bat is in rehab.
Bad news, it's in Redville.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the GoFundMe to raise money for Groundskeeper Carl's rabies shots. Good news, the bat tested negative. Bad news, Carl had a blood alcohol level of 2.8 which is a parole violation and we used the money to get him a lawyer.

Well, Grendel's badass, sure - but have you seen his mother?

Also, if we're on Dan Simmons, I think the Shrike is pretty damned impressive.
What's your favourite monster/creature from literature? I'm thinking Tuunbaq from Dan Simmon's The Terror, the triffids from Wyndham's Day of the Triffids, the demon from M.R. James' Casting The Runes, Grendel, Pennywise, etc.

All biologists should adopt this.
We are phasing out the terms “extant” and “extinct” from our exhibits and will now refer to species as either “Darwinners" or “Darlosers.”

I hadn't realised that AI bros think that Black Mirror is a source of use cases.

This is going to happen. And, I fear, it will eventually become part of the new normal. Like bottled water did.
For real, check this out. Evil.

hey @iandunt.bsky.social, might this be of interest?
My mom’s working on her Ph.D, and her dissertation is on Super Heroes as modern mythology. If you could take a few minutes to answer questions about your experiences with super hero media, it would help her a lot!

Apparently "Mistletoe Murders" is the real title for this show.

Goody.

Next year I fully expect to see:
The Knife Before Christmas
A Slay in a Manger
Silent Knife

(I was going to add Charmed Robbery, but that was made in 2006...)

Chimps with chips.

Another of the many @greenevillezoo.bsky.social bluesky tales that enliven any timeline.
We’re launching an investigation into how our chimps were able to host an illegal poker game, who tipped off the FBI and where the money is buried.

Nobody watches the #BBC. Clearly. It produces nothing of interest or value for anyone in the UK.

When I asked Google Gemini for help analysing these, it seems that it can find Bill Clinton, but it can't even look for Donald Trump. Interesting. I wonder why Google Gemini seems so selectively inept?

Head in hands. Real problem here is he thought he could do an international transfer in 90 minutes without checking to see how he could do so.

Also: I'd love to see a similar tale of someone attempting an international transfer in the US. Especially if they try to leave airside on the way...
Man from nation whose comparable-sized global city has three airports, none of which they have managed to build a direct rail link from the city centre to yet, comes to Heathrow and announces that the British can’t make anything work.
Noah Smith is paid in the high six-figures to write a blog read by Americans who believe themselves to be intelligent. Yet, he is both unable to read a sign and also for some reason chose to have a 90 minute layover for a flight that takes 90 minutes.

The Royal Society pretty much invented the collective adoption of scientific method and peer-reviewed publication, so if they say it needs to change...

...it needs to change.
The number of low-quality or fraudulent publications is rising to hundreds of thousands per year. It is time to reevaluate current publishing models and outline a global plan. Read the 'Reformation of science publishing: the Stockholm Declaration': royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/... #RSOS 🧪
