Hopefully we will elect a super majority of Democrats in both houses of Congress and safeguards will be enacted to insure it never happens again. Repuglicans will resist but I am hopeful that Democrats/democracy will prevail. As you say the system that allowed a Trump presidency is terribly flawed!
