Described by the American Humanist Association as a lifelong humanist, Rob Reiner grew up without religion and was open throughout his life about not believing in a god, grounding his values instead in decency, empathy, and how we treat one another.

Ukraine has signalled again and again it would agree to a meaningful peace proposal – even one that involved freezing frontlines where they are, at least de facto.

This “peace plan” is an attempt by Russia to get Trump to gift them Ukrainian land they failed to take by force.

The Government inherited an asylum system in meltdown, and had managed to at least get cases being processed again while ending the madness of the Rwanda plan. But the policies being announced today undermine all of that, making it harder for refugees to integrate and contribute to their communities

If someone has travelled thousands of miles, paying everything they own to an exploitative people smuggling gang, risking their life in a deadly channel crossing, I do not want to be the person who takes their last valuables – a mother’s necklace? A gift? – from them. And nor should the rest of us.

The problem after 14 years of damage wreaked by the Tories is that we now have a f***ed up BBC and a f***ed up NHS.

But, remember, the f***ing up has come from outside. It is not intrinsic

We desperately need a properly functioning BBC and properly functioning NHS

DEFEND THEM!

I will never understand for the life of me why people don't do nuance.

Hamas are horrendous; the IDF are also horrendous.

Religious people by and large are lovely and peaceful; theocracies are terrifying.

Labour are quite bad; Reform would be far worse.

It is possible for two things to be true.

"A great British institution is under attack from a foreign government. President Trump is trying to destroy our BBC... Trump has undermined press freedom in America. Now he's trying to do the same here, disgracefully egged on by the leader of Reform."

@polphilpod.bsky.social listening to some of your older podcasts is a bit frustrating , when you use an atomic metaphor. The electrons can't influence the composition of the nucleus. That would be alchemy.

It’s hard to overstate truth’s value, as well as the difficulty of knowing truth.

I take more seriously the views of folks who criticize and caveat their own beliefs.

Confidence in belief is often a sign someone doesn’t understand the difficulty of knowing.

The Iranian regime is the oppressor of its people. It should be destroyed. But Trump and Netenyahu couldn't give a single solitary fuck about the people of Iran. They're children running around the streets with grenades, high on sugar.

Today we remember these beautiful words by Jo Cox, who was murdered #onthisday in 2016 by a far-right extremist. Her positive, optimistic, and caring approach to life and politics had already inspired so many. Her legacy lives on, including through @jocoxfoundation.bsky.social. She is sorely missed.
