The heated rivalry between the two students finally came to a head, and the swordmaster reluctantly agreed to let them duel, to first blood

It did not end as expected.

"Next time," the swordmaster said at last, "I want you to wipe your swords and sheathe them before you start kissing."

A preponderance of video games, a few tabletop games, and one TTRPG — proportionately speaking I can't really fault the distribution there. The TTRPG is Daggerheart, which is worthy (see also: @rdonoghue.bsky.social) and blurb-namechecks Fate, Blades, & Apocalypse World.

Michael Green has a followup to his piece on the 6 figure poverty line, and it’s a good read, but he is now two for two with opening thoughtful pieces with profoundly dumbass remarks, so I’m wondering if it’s his signature or something?

We have a “poverty trap” and it’s driving the destruction of social cohesion.

The “poverty line” is’t 35,000, it’s $150,000, and making more than one, and less than the other is worse than being “poor”.

Which is why the rage.

I mean, hell, if you really believe GenAI is making your product better, you should not be relying on someone else to tag it.

It is weird how enthusiastic folks are to brand something with an “AI” label when users have no choice, but are so hesitant to do so otherwise.

I see the argument that steam should not be labeling AI content because eventually they’ll have to label everything.

I have a contentious reply to that, but my less contentious reply is that if that is so, we can deal with it if and when it happens with no real problem. All very reasonable.

Ran a 13th Age game when it was new. I enjoyed what it did at the table, but taught me that I will rarely be happy with non-bounded stats for making antagonists up on the fly.
Starting a reaction thread on 13th Age 2E.

First, this is gorgeous edition, and it seems like a great upgrade and refinement of what already a really fun, smooth running game. /1

The witch made him hot chocolate.

"They say I'm strong," he said. "And I am."

He took a sip.

"They say I can overcome any hardship."

"Mm," said the witch.

"And I can. I do."

The witch said nothing.

"But I shouldn't have to!"

"No."

The witch held the hero as he wept.

"No, you shouldn't."

Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

See, the way that we "work collectively" is by electing people to represent us. Other ways of "working collectively" tend to be more chaotic, and involve guillotines.
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

Let me get this right… a sufficient number Senate Democrats appear to be willing to reopen government to alleviate air travel for upper & upper-middle income people at the expense of access to healthcare for lower income people. Yes?

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

And now you all understand why Schumer made that offer publicly. They all knew this was going to be the GOP response. It's making them own the shutdown even more, just as air travel cuts are being made.

If you're at the grocery store, Pink Lady, SweeTango/Minneiska, or Cosmic Crisp are good bets. SweeTango & Cosmic Crisp were bred specifically to be "Honeycrisp but with the will to live."

Other ones are good too! Those are just the 3 I've had the best luck with here in eastern NC.
So, what is a good substitute for Honeycrisps if we’re south?
