This is *exactly* like claiming you know the guy founded "terrorism."

Except antifa is the OPPOSITE of terrorism, obvs.

Like I say, it wasn't even really common knowledge at the time. I happened to be in early university and around people who were socially aware like that. I'm a leftist by upbringing. :)

FWIW, there *seems* to be growing awareness of them in the States. Behind The Bastards did a two-episode series about them.

Also, us white Canadians didn't really openly discuss them until the 90s. I remember episodes of NORTH OF SIXTY touching on them.

Might be worth checking out since you didn't authorize it? Just a thought.

This is really important history. The nature of concentration camps, to place people in conditions designed to bring about their sickness and death, is so similar to residential schools that my nine-year-old could see it. He's been learning about residential schools since kindergarten.

With absolutely no apologies to Margaret Thatcher:

The problem with capitalism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.

(See all the whining corporations do in the press whenever they feel their customers aren’t tithing them enough.)

Im so tired of hearing about Nazi Germany

Your piece of shit grandparents and great grandparents are alive right now and can tell you the rapes, murders, and segregation they were upholding and voting for.

Fuck y’all

As a recent convert myself, I think new Linux users should think about desktop primarily and distro secondarily. Now, most Distros come with a default desktop--eg, people sometimes say "Fedora" when they mean *Gnome*--but the desktop is what you're interacting with 95% of the time.

You're welcome. I'm genuinely pleased to help.

If you're interested, Debian is the basis of like half of Linux. It's what Ubuntu runs off, including a customized version of Gnome, and everything that's based on Ubuntu is effectively Debian as well.

Done! There's also an automated account called "@[email protected]," but it hasn't posted anything, just FYI.

Wait, I'm sorry: WHAT tf is happening? Is Bsky Trust & Safety actually saying that they don't provide input on the 3rd party "AI" that is the 1st tier of all image & video moderation on this website? Am I actually reading that right? Because that seems like a completely bananas way to run a railroad

My statement on the two year anniversary of October 7, 2023.
“Two years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 more. I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities.

In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: adeath toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble. Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself has run out of language. I mourn these lives and pray for the families that have been shattered. Our government has been complicit through it all.

This must end. The occupation and apartheid must end. Peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes, and our government must act to end these atrocities and hold those responsible to account.

These last two years have demonstrated the very worst of humanity. We must answer it by modeling the very best: a relentless pursuit of our higher ideals and an unwavering commitment to universal human rights.”

Given all of that, the best solution AFAICT is for everyone to react swiftly as a community and shun any poster that puts up that material and/or any instance that doesn't shut it down.

Yeah, that is the trade off with decentralization. There *will* be Nazi servers. There's literally nothing we can do about it except defederate from them.
orionkidder.bsky.social
Shit. That's a problem. I hadn't seen any myself and wasn't aware it was an issue. I appreciate the links.

fwiw, I wholeheartedly agree. Those taking the "It's not yet fascism here" line are, in a narrow and technical sense, correct, but the point isn't "OK, we're good then" but "OK, but what will keep it that way? In what ways do we reverse the trend toward an (as yet) unfinished project"?

Mourning those murdered by Hamas isn't incompatible with mourning those murdered by the Israeli state.

Demanding that the hostages return isn't incompatible with naming & demanding an end to genocide.

Naming the power imbalance & impact thereof doesn't desecrate those murdered two years ago today.
