Country 9 in global oil reserves has invaded country 1 and arrested its president. Country 7 is under sanctions and its refineries are being destroyed. Country 2 is facing off with country 6. And there are riots in country 3. But oil is only $60/bbl. Maybe oil is not as critical as it used to be?

Just so we’re clear on what’s happening.

The beauty of local politics is that it is nonpartisan-we can debate issues on merits & not like we’re opposing SEC teams. Sadly, not everyone feels that way these days.

Republicans are now suddenly planning to TAX renewable energy, transforming the repeal of the IRA from a challenge to a full-blown crisis for American solar and wind.

I spent the last 24 hours putting this story together to explain why.

Please share! This is really important!!!

How the Senate GOP’s New Tax on Renewables Could ‘Kill’ the Industry
As bad as previous drafts of the reconciliation bill have been, this one is worse.

That is how the North American Building Trades Unions describe the Republican budget bill.

So where are the normally aggressive leaders of the Abundance Movement like @tednordhaus.bsky.social and @thebti.bsky.social?

Huh, turns out everything Republicans said about "all of the above" energy strategy was bullshit meant to manipulate Democrats until they could take power and crush renewables! The key is for all political analysts to immediately forget this so that we can be surprised again the next time.
Tech neutrality was long gone and we’ve graduated to financial war on renewables.

NEW permanent excise taxes on solar and wind installations AND on their manufacturing facilities. Bill also removes 5-year cost recovery. Harsher FEOC too.

Overall: Latest text is a lot worse for solar and wind – functionally kills the credits immediately and permanently. Penalizes future wind and solar development far beyond the life of the credits: I...

The Republican's budget bill kills the industries of the future while subsidizing the industries of the 19th century. It is insanity!

Kill this bill.

At a moment of rapid demand growth and a growing electricity affordability crisis, the Republican's One Big Horrible Bill will RAISE TAXES on wind & solar—the only new sources of electricity we are able to rapidly add to the US grid—in four different ways.

This bill is unbelievably bad for America. This One Big Horrible Bill will raise energy costs, kill $100s of billions of new investment in energy & manufacturing, make our grid less reliable, increase pollution, and constrain our ability to compete with China for the future or AI. Total loser stuff.

The Senate version of GOP's budget bill dropped in the middle of the night. Astonishingly, it got EVEN WORSE. It raises energy costs, kills $100s of billions of investment in manufacturing, makes grids less reliable, increases pollution & constrains our ability to compete w/China on AI. Loser stuff.

This is exactly right. Anyone voting for the spending bill is voting for higher energy bills and blackouts.
If this Senate language on solar passes, I think we’re in a full-blown national energy crisis within 2 years.

Forecasting after the cliff is even worse, but project pipelines will dry up, supply chains will convulse...and cost of new additions will soar. Assuming we can even meet demand growth. 🔌💡
