Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

"The new “mansion tax” announced by Rachel Reeves in last week’s budget is estimated to affect around 165,000 property owners, and on current trends the British media is forecast to have interviewed every single one of them by the end of the year."

Won’t somebody please think of Britain’s poor £2m homeowners? Oh, wait – everyone already is | Jonathan Liew
Contrast the furious reaction to Rachel Reeves’s ‘mansion tax’ to the response offered to those living with real housing injustice: indifference, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Liew

Today the news will be about the government's proposals for juries.

Please read this thread so as to be informed about the actual practical problems in the criminal justice system - problems which will not be solved by this misconceived and illiberal tinkering.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

"I am completely fine with some universities collapsing" = "I am completely fine with the local economies of some former industrial towns collapsing"
As ever, the loudest voices calling for the collapse of universities, presumably in the post-92 sector, benefitted from privileged educations.

What word would you use to describe a PM who only takes GB News on a trip to another country?

Funny point about 'island of strangers' rhetoric, it assumes level of homogeneity in UK society pre-large scale migration that is patently absurd, as though regional, religious, socio-economic etc cleavages did not exist, as though the 'national community' was not actually series of sub-communities

And you may find yourself living in a thatched-roof hut
And you may find yourself living in the Holy Roman Empire
And you may find yourself negotiating with your lords
And you may find yourself in a beautiful hall, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"
