Paris urban biking investment helps cut pollution in half: “Between 2005 and 2024, levels of nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter — 2 of the most harmful pollutants to human health — have been slashed by 50% and 55%, respectively.” Via @momentummag.bsky.social momentummag.com/paris-proves...

That "empty" bus or bike lane is probably moving a lot more people than you think!

In cities where there isn’t likely to be investment available for badly needed service improvements AND free fares (sadly, that’s MOST cities), I strongly prefer strategic ridership-focused SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS, along with reasonable fares (and free fares for under 18, over 60, and low income). 3/

HOUSING THE HOMELESS SAVES MONEY: “a study showed the savings in emergency healthcare, social services and the justice system totalled as much as €15,000 a year for every homeless person in properly supported housing.”

It works, helps people AND it saves money.
'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness
Finland is the only EU country where homelessness is falling. Its secret? Giving people homes as soon as they need them – unconditionally

toronto's newest stretch of bus lanes entered service this month along the downtown east waterfront - supporting better reliability and ~5 min travel time savings for thousands of riders across 4 routes.

these were painted just 2 months after council approved it. it can be that easy.

I'm trying to step away from transit, but I felt I needed to suggest something since the silly idea of a 401 road tunnel still hasn't died. Read now:

A Real Solution to Highway 401 Congestion — the Express Subway.
A subway to Pickering makes much more sense than a 401 Tunnel.

My household can both bike and drive along Bloor to get to U of T. Removing the bike lanes will guarantee we’ll drive much more.

Let’s be clear — the “War on the Car” populist narrative attacking any attempts, however small, to add more CHOICE in how to get around cities, has always been bullshit.

But there absolutely should be a “war” on car DEPENDENCY.

How can MORE CHOICE, with proven benefits for all, possibly be bad?
FACT: The more people choosing to walk, bike & take public transit to get around cities, the better cities work for EVERYONE, including DRIVERS.

Anyone claiming that less car dependency is a “war on cars” doesn’t understand how cities (or geometry) work.

It’s time we tell #TheTruthAboutTraffic.

Slow buses (Dufferin/Bathurst) push riders to aspire to drive. More driving slows down the roads for everyone

Bus lanes retain riders and increase ridership (eg King Street Pilot project). Some of those new riders would have driven -> faster travel for everyone

Said it before, I will say it again. Whatever the Premier says, this is not transportation policy. It's an dogmatic position on who has the right to use public space and how. www.thestar.com/politics/pro...
Doug Ford’s budget will target more Toronto bikes lanes
Sources say Thursday's provincial budget legislation will include the removal of the bike lanes on Queen's Park Crescent, around the legislative precinct, and on Avenue Road south of Davenport Road.

NYC’s congestion pricing is a policy miracle: Less traffic, less noise, faster transit, more business sales, more transit revenue. And it hasn’t produced the negative effects outside the cordon zone we were afraid of.

Disagree with Naama Blonder about not putting bike lanes on arterial roads. The way our suburbs are laid out, alternatives are impossible. The road allowances are wide enough to support a safe bike lane. re-upping Andy singer:
