Oranga Tamariki (Responding to Serious Youth Offending) Amendment Bill My/our comments It is disgraceful that the government is proposing this, given the Royal Inquiry into Abuse in State Care has produced overwhelming evidence of the harm "boot camps" and similar institutions have wrought on rangatahi for decades. These measures don't work, have never worked, and the pilot program that resulted in the death of one young person and others absconding from the program shows that it will not work. My/our recommendations The bill should be scrapped, and funding for adequate support for young people, their whānau and their communities must be allocated with urgency.

This was a relatable read. Many of the tactics Williams talks about mirror what I've experienced over the last few years, even before my book came out- but especially around the time of it's release when I got out of town for a week due to the number of death threats I was getting
