“A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” -John Stuart Mill
I would caution anyone entertaining this sentiment. Mass protests are likely to be dangerous. We no longer live in a country where the right to peacefully assemble exists for opponents of the regime.
We’re gonna have to march.

This is exactly how this issue needs to be framed!
Americans have lost the freedom to live safely, to raise our kids & send them to school in safety, to be able to vote or worship in safety. 2A fanatics have elevated gun rights above all other freedoms, and now, the USA is the least free wealthy democracy in the world. #EndGunViolenceNow

As if the lasers weren’t bad enough, now we’re going to have people shooting at the passenger jets they’ve mis-identified. I give them a low probability of hitting anything in the sky, but the same can’t be said for people and things on the ground 😳

DO NOT SHINE LASERS AT LIGHTS IN THE SKY!
There’s a good chance it’s not the drone you think it is and we pilots already deal with this far too often. Depending on the strength of the laser you will likely distract the flight crew and possibly injure their eyes as well. It’s also a federal crime!

Shining lasers at aircraft is a federal felony. The FBI might have to be a bit more forceful in telling people they're fucking nuts. From x.com/TakeThatClou... by @takethatclouds.bsky.social.

In South Korea they impeach the leader for a coup. In America we make him president.

All of this! The post-WWII era has by most measures been the most stable and peaceful era since people started writing things down. Has it been perfect or perfectly equitable? No. But it will be a whole lot worse if we start experimenting with appeasement again!
I feel like people have forgotten that the postwar international order was not designed by utopian idealists but by incredibly ruthless political leaders who'd watched one hundred million people die and the entire world be pushed the brink of annihilation twice in their adult lives.
I think that a negotiated ceasefire is inevitable, and the best we can hope for, but I find it frustrating how many leftists don't seem to understand the long-term consequences of finally killing the UN charter and endorsing the legitimacy of territorial expansion by conquest once again. Not great!
