In the concentration camp universe, this is what's known as a filtration camp. A government preemptively takes a whole class of people to interrogate and detain extrajudicially in order to inflict duress on them while arbitrarily assessing their (supposed) culpability.
This is a truly horrifying memo. It says that the policy of the US government will now be to proactively seek out and arrest likely tens of thousands of refugees who entered legally under Biden and subject them to detention, where they will be interrogated about their status.

Donald Trump won in 2016 and 2024 because anti-system voters flocked to him.

Democrats need a strategy for competing with anti-system voters in 2028.

This is, in some ways, a very strong case for nominating someone like AOC over Newsom.

"Is there technology the left is excited about?" is the kind of question you only ask if you're wildly naive about technology.

mRNA vaccines. Heat pumps. Offshore wind. Urban mining. Sodium batteries.

But god forbid we're not fawning over every new implementation of Making Computers Bad At Math.

The maga-sphere seems terrified of AOC, whose eloquence and clarity of speech confound the magas. The best the opposition press could do is say AOC talks like Donald Trump.

Maybe AOC should consider running for president. I would certainly back her.
I see they settled on a framing in the donor group chat

Salem, Oregon, has always been a prison town. But late last year, city leaders were confronted with what to do when formerly incarcerated people want to join civic life.

@thewesternedge.bsky.social has uncovered how a series of backroom deals and a smear campaign roiled the city for weeks.
Is Redemption Possible in Oregon's Capital City?
The Western Edge uncovered a manufactured crisis, backroom deals, political spending, AI slop and a city council bending to appease a police union.

One of the lessons I hope people take away from Jesse Jackson’s life and the outpouring of remembrances small and large is that progress is made and measured in every act and utterance against oppression and not measured solely in legislative or electoral victories.

I know there are a LOT of people who are convinced any leftist criticizing the Democrats are saying "Don't vote," but the vast majority of us aren't.

SOMETIMES, when it's literally the MONTH OF an election, we MIGHT, but usually we're saying "Get better policies" to the politicians in question.

We don't need to look to another country for a comparison. All Black people, including free Black people before the Reconstruction Amendments had to produce proof of how they became free on demand. Whites routinely presumed someone with Black skin o be enslaved w/ the burden on African Americans. 1/
" In a free society, the burden cannot be on us to prove our legal status on demand. Otherwise, we’d be a country where everyone — citizens and non-citizens alike — must be prepared at all times to prove their legal right to be here. We’d be a cliched “papers, please” dystopia..."
New at The Watch:

The Democrats' demands to "reform" Trump's immigration thugs aren't reforms at all. They're already the law, the Constitution, and widely accepted police practices. And in a free society, they'd never be negotiable.
