Hi Bluesky! I’m Priya Devarajan, an immunologist studying how our immune system fights respiratory infections like influenza. My new lab @Stony Brook Medicine studies B/T cell responses, tissue-resident memory, respiratory immunity, and immune aging (www.thedevarajanlab.com). Excited to connect!

This sounds just like the kind of thoughts and ideas I have when I am trying to focus on writing a grant!

My only regret is that we didn't go with the title "One buffer to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them", although "Squeaky clean staining" was a pretty good options too!

For our #flowcytometry peeps, would you like to have a single fix/perm protocol that is optimised for everything? One that preserves fluorophores while allowing simultaneous TF and cytokine staining? How about 100-fold cheaper?

You got it:

This looks like an amazing fix and I will definitely try. The overnight transcription factor staining protocol was already a game changer and I recommend it to everyone.

Just take a look. The Foxp3 fix/perm kit is good for TFs, but kills endogenous GFP. The eBio preserves GFP, but is incomplete at allowing TF staining. Burton's Best Buffer is as good as the best under all conditions (except phospho-flow), and preserves dye integrity too.

Plus it is dirt cheap. 🎤

Led by then graduate student Taylor Heim with help in revision from Ochapa Ibrahim! CXCR6 is on all of our TRM...why?? We think because it plays an important role in managing antigen encounters in tissue and successful transition to memory.

A Dapl1+ subpopulation of naïve CD8 T cells is enriched for memory-lineage precursors | Science Advances www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Our new story just came out in Science Advances! So proud of Adam Lynch and the rest of our team.
A Dapl1+ subpopulation of naïve CD8 T cells is enriched for memory-lineage precursors
Thymic-derived naïve Dapl1+ CD8 T cells contain a subset preprogrammed to form memory-like cells upon activation.

Research has an economic return multiplier >1. So taxes don't even really pay for research. Research more than pays for itself, the taxes are just used to kick-start the positive economic cycle. The more money invested in research, the better the economy.

In light of today’s news about the National Cancer Institute announcing a 4% payline, it’s really important to communicate to people that the previous 10% payline was still effectively a lottery and the result of decades of underfunding the NIH. Paylines used to be 25%.
