No, purple is not my favorite color.

As always, today is a good day to support artists, writers, creators. If you have the means, maybe consider signing up for a Patreon. Buy a book, a game, a painting. Commission a new piece. Tell a creator what they mean to you. Signal boost their work.

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

Attention, my dudes. If you have a speculative fiction book with anti-authoritarian themes available on itch, I'm putting together a bundle.

If in doubt, don't self-reject! Just reach out in the replies!

TLDR version: the Bluesky moderation team has recently been caught in a series of bad decisions (permabans for stuff that doesn't violate the TOS, temporarily taking down moderation lists to block transphobia, and so on), all while the CEO had a weird meltdown this past weekend involving...waffles.

What, is this a freebie boost that 90+% of book covers get?

(I wonder if "evoke tension" might have been a better descriptor for this segment of the study.)

Covers that evoke emotion r = 0.3
a selection of emotional covers, including things like the word "perfect" imperfectly dripping down in a watercolor stain

They wanted the U.S. to be first in artificial intelligence.

They got the U.S. as the first in being artificial, and dead last in being intelligent.

From what I've heard:

If it is a bubble, then once it bursts the US will get another Great Depression

If it isn't a bubble, then millions will be laid off and since there's no social safety net, the US will get another Great Depression

"The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year... In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI."

A side profile of a stocky and pensive nobleman. He is wearing a yellowish gambeson under brown lamellar armour. With both hands he holds a sword by its grip and hilt, the blade pointing down. A border woven from wheat and thorny stemmed flowers is meant to be reminiscent of an illuminated manuscript. Stylized text near the bottom reads The Fate of Lenn. Below the title text, in smaller font, the author name reads Dylan Madeley. On a rich black background, a longsword stands on its point in front of a cluster of wheat. Title text at the top reads The Redemption of Jarek. Author name at the bottom reads Dylan Madeley.

As good a time as any to let people know the Four Job Fiesta community is open, doesn't tolerate bigots, and has twice-a-month mini challenges on top of the big yearly charity event. Comes complete with Discord server.

You can find more details and links on the website. www.fourjobfiesta.com

Agreed.

A major part of it comes down to online book marketing tag systems not having built-in distinctions between "contains X" and "is about X as a topic".

Not the first time I've seen similar debates. (Although usually it's about the broader topic of romance as genre versus plot element, so...)
professormitchell.bsky.social
Fair enough, since that was a snarky surface-level read of the arguments on my part.

Just seemed to me like more people were looking to pick fights instead of actually establish communication (and yes, this does very much also apply to the person behind the bundle).

I am now picturing an edited cut of Citizen Kane, but instead of "Rosebud", he says "Waffles".

Hats off to Cam Schlittler who, as a rookie, put on a vintage dominating pitching performance tonight the likes of which we almost never see these days.

8 IP, 0 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 12 K.

As popular as it is to dunk on the Yankees...yeah, their faith in Schlittler absolutely earned that win.

I'd like to congratulate the marketing manager who came up with this idea for his brilliant work at promoting self-publishing books.

no no the publishing industry is doing fine, why do you ask
A screenshot from Publisher's Lunch:
Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

As a cishet man (thus someone whose opinion will irritate everyone equally) not involved* with the whole Swords & Sapphics...thing, it really comes off as a case of people heavily opposed to biphobia and people heavily opposed to transphobia rudely yelling at each other.
