1. Kentish glory moth.

No longer found in Kent, or indeed most other places in the UK. Now scarce and found only in Scotland, if I recall correctly.
Watercolour and pencil llustration of a big fluffy Kentish glory moth, or Endromis versicolora if you want the Latin. It's perched on bark, with its large white and red-brown speckled wings folded. It has a very fluffy body and black antennas and she looks majestic.

Breaking my silence to share this summer fishfly I stumbled across :D I LOVE megalopterans and I’ve always wanted to see one in-person; it’s been dead for weeks in this spiderweb but I’m happy regardless
A large winged insect hanging from a spiderweb next to a window. The body is mostly varying shades of grey all over. The wings are exceptionally long with a pleated texture to them; one wing is hanging down perpendicular to the other wings and is damaged. The same insect with a finger for size comparison. Its wing is a little over twice the length of a fingernail. An angular view of the same insect. Its face is somewhat visible, revealing shiny grey damselfly-like eyes on the sides of the head, and an angular, boxy head shape.

Deciding on a taxon to specialize in for future entomological study is so difficult because I evidently am most interested in lepidoptera but there’s already so many entomologists that study that order and I feel a certain need to be able to help expand knowledge of lesser understood taxa

This is Kalligramma brachyrhyncha, a medium-sized kalligrammatid ( #Mesozoic lacewings) from the Middle #Jurassic of Inner Mongolia, China. It is known to have had eyespots on its wings and may have acted as a pollinator for #bennettitaleans. #paleoart

At an AES event several years ago, a customer kindly pointed out that some of my earlier drawings had somewhat incorrect colouring, as back then I was drawing from my specimens and hadn't even considered that they might be faded. Well, I'm now pleased to share my updated cecropia silkmoth...
My new cecropia silkmoth, with a much more red body and wing details. My original drawing, which looks slightly more brown / orange as it was based on a slightly faded specimen.
