what’s urgently needed is the rise of DEMOCRACY.

I’ve written a fun song to inspire in students the basics of what we used to call civics. if you like its spirit, pls share.

#ABCDemocracy is set for release as a single on Oct 24, with a study guide for kids 3rd grade and up.

Good to protest in ways that don't depend on shame (the GOP has none) but a daylong boycott is akin to a toddler holding their breath.

Effective economic protest means you need to plan and execute something long term, thus nontrivial personal sacrifice, something most people are not willing to do.

Media are missing this if they don't include it.

Yes, Judge Chutkan just denied temporary restraining order in New Mexico v Musk.

But judge signals plaintiffs have the better argument when this reaches the merits: That Elon Musk is exercising power in violation of Appointments Clause.

Recording dissent may often seem futile, but its not. It is important to show that people knew what they were doing and what was to come. It is important that in the future, whether that future be a week or a generation, that people not be able to say, "We didn't know."

If the US Attorney is serious about prosecuting people for simply posting the names of federal employees online, there's a guy with a massive platform who did this to a bunch of federal employees last November:

Dems should not allow anything to move in the House or Senate until this is dealt with. Dem have the power in both chambers to jam up the works, and they need to use it.

That isn't a radical tactic, it's what the GOP has done for years for trivial matters. Unlike this, which is catastrophic.
Fed source to me: “It’s like a bank heist and the bank is America. Not really being hyperbolic to say control of those systems would allow an extremely fast collapse of the economy. Imagine it’s a plumbing system and someone takes a sledgehammer to the central pipe.”

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.

Hey, this is a good point: the correct answer to “I don’t have a lawyer, so how do I speak to the Feds?”

…is that you do not speak to the Feds. You say “no.”
I see people say this often. And that's good, because I am not smart around cops. (At least I haven't recently had a panic attack at the sight of one.)

But... I don't have a lawyer. I don't know how to get a lawyer for "I'm not arrested, but..."
This is true if the Feds want to talk to you about your friend’s posts, too.

YOU DO NOT TALK TO THE FEDS WITHOUT A LAWYER.

PSA: I'm both a lawyer and an arrogant know-it-all who thinks I'm better than other lawyers.

Yet I still wouldn't talk to the FBI, I'd hire a lawyer to talk to them for me.

Don't talk, you're only ever incriminating yourself—including if you're innocent. Shut the fuck up.

Yes.

Be clear. Be concise. Be polite, even. But be firm.

"Am I under arrest?" If no, "I'm not going to speak to you without an attorney." If yes, "I want an attorney and I'm not going to speak to you without an attorney."

And then you do what? You SHUT THE FUCK UP.
also, use exactly these words" I want an attorney/lawyer". Do not improvise. There is a person who the courts ruled was legally and fairly denied access to a lawyer because he said "I want a lawyer, dawg" and the police argued that he had asked for a lawyer dog. The courts are shit.
If you ever wind up in an interrogation, you say “I want an attorney” and then you shut up. And you remember: cops can legally lie to you in the US. And they will, to try to coerce a confession.
