ALERT: important and savvy phone banking scam. this one is tricky and could catch anyone (even you)
You receive a call on your phone.

The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraudulent payment.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

This article is amazing because it quotes several women explaining why they dislike AI, then counters with a bootlicking worm of a "man" arguing that AI is inevitable actually (with no logical reasons or argument given) and that's it, that's the story.
Bizarrely framed article about the people (all women) who ‘refuse to use AI’. And a #philosophy professor who says “The moment to opt out of #AI has already passed”. Oh well. That’s that then. 🤷‍♂️ #AIEthics www.bbc.com/news/article...

If a poster's response to literally everything is "SO YOU AGREE IT'S TIME FOR ARMED REVOLUTION" then

1) they're a fed trying to entrap you or,
2) they are absolutely not ready for armed revolution on anyfucking level and will betray or fail you in a heartbeat

Strange Days, one of my favorite movies and one of the best cyberpunk films ever made, turns 30 this year.

I feel so damn old right now. But still, glad I didn't check out early when I wanted to. I wouldn't want to miss a thing.

My first question for my new publisher (Aethon, home of the upcoming Neon Meridian series) was "do you use AI in any way?" and I was exceedingly pleased that the response was a visceral "hell, no."
Writers: before you sign a contract with a publisher, make sure AI isn't replacing your illustrator, your translator, your editor, your jacket designer. Readers: if you're thinking of buying a book, do the same. Refuse. Resist. If AI garbage doesn't sell, people will stop making it.

Good lord just what the hell is up today. A potential ban on any regulation for AI for the next 10 years? This includes good bills like AB 412 of legislation protecting folks from Deepfakes! Wtf?! Call your congressmen and women asap to tell them to take this down!

Here's a thread about some books I like.
I've been talking intermittently about books, particularly Urban Fantasy, that I've bounced off of recently.

Here are some authors I really enjoyed:

Just so yall know.
Protest at my small town courthouse yesterday lit me up. Lit all of us up. Local musicians singing songs, Democratic officials were speaking. Cars honking in support. a lot of folks said it was the biggest protest they had seen at that courthouse. Best sign: Hate never made any country great.

You set it up. Not Friend in Crisis.

You get consent, & ask them who belongs in it. 1/x 🧵

You know what, point to all the superhero writers who have their villains lay out the plan in detail out loud. You were right. They do indeed do that. It turns out the thing you got wrong is the part where the good guys stop them. You didn't write unrealistic villains, you wrote unrealistic heroes.
