Why are folks mad at the working mom with kids on Medicaid and SNAP rather than companies like Walmart that refuse to pay her a living wage and provide health insurance?

Hanging with two of the cool stars of tonight’s episode of @pbs.org Human Footprint with colleague @vectorgen.bsky.social on left and co-Director @neillosin.bsky.social on right. Airing at 9pm EST tonight. #Wolbachia just made the big TV screen.

This is our lab! Check the ~42 min mark of the episode!
This whole thing is good. But if you need a quick pick-me up, zoom ahead to minute 42 and enjoy the soundtrack they picked for @vectorgen.bsky.social 's walk-on. It has dramatically improved my day.

Today's a great day for Vladimir Putin. He finally has an asset at the highest level of US intelligence, and he’s laughing. Tulsi Gabbard, known in Russia as "Putin's Girlfriend", is now in charge of our intelligence apparatus. America is being weakened by Trump and his administration.

On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

Just got word that our Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence 3 (IE3) Grant was being canceled. All 100+ institutions. So even private funding is susceptible to this administration’s unraveling of DEI initiatives

Extremely disappointed to see HHMI decide to kill their Inclusive Excellence program, including terminating the current IE3 awards to over a hundred institutions effective this year in the middle of a 6-year grant. I was hoping HHMI (and other private funders) would continue to lead the way.

Not sure how to put it more clearly:

Vought is the coup.
Everyone who votes for Vought is doing a coup.
The Senate voted to advance Project 2025 architect Russell Vought as OMB director.

Vought has been quite clear that his intent is to dismantle the federal government.

Every Democrat voted NO, except for Fetterman who was absent.

Hi that was a coup last night in case no one mentioned that to you. The executive branch seized the power of the purse the Constitution gave to Congress, which is a pretty authoritarian / illegal consolidation of powers move. Time to go yell at your reps, the media, etc.

This is a positive outcome, insofar as the court is not allowing Griffin to totally sidestep the statutory process for handling election contests. But three of the Republican justices on the court are previewing a potentially very bad outcome in their concurrences.
BREAKING: North Carolina Supreme Court denies Griffin's denies Griffin's writ of prohibition, says appeal must first go through Wake County Superior Court. Story to come. #ncpol

NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
