Watching disabled people around the world mourn Alice is a reminder of the good aspect of the internet. 30 years ago, few people outside of SF would ever have known Alice existed. I never would have met her. The internet connected us all. Let’s honor Alice’s memory by using that power and community.
My social media is wall-to-wall love for the incomparable Alice Wong, and I need more words. What captures sadness and/also affection for a community that knows what's been lost?

Checking in on this: the school board member who opposed the ban on trans athletes, and who was then challenged by the parent of the HS girl who'd complained, won reelection, 60 to 40%.
I'd totally missed this:
In Tumwater, WA, a HS student complained about a trans basketball player. Then, the local school board passed a resolution to ban trans girls from girl sports.
Now, the mother of that student is running against the sole school board member to vote against the resolution.

I had a seizure on Thanksgiving when I was 19 and understand the whole sordid history but it remains my favorite holiday and the only one I always made it back home for when I lived hundreds of miles away and that is because my mom is the best cook.

Whenever I ask someone who says they do not like turkey how they are cooking it, or have had it cooked, if they even know, the responses I get are quite sad.
Too many people just take the turkey out of the bag and put it in the oven.
It needs seasoning! Inside the cavity and under the skin!
If you don't treat your turkey with respect, you're going to get a dry, tasteless turkey, and you'll deserve it.

Fascinating. Tanzania is among those leading in an effort to re-green desertified areas, and rather than 'planting' trees, they have brought back old techniques to prompt dormant tree root systems to begin to regenerate into full trees again.
