Something very very weird happened during the Hugos award ceremony... It's been on my mind for days, and so I wrote this blog: "When People Giggle at Your Name, or the 2025 Hugo Awards Incident"

As a further timeline cleanse for you, please enjoy this pollen-swaddled bee I photographed when I was in Portland over the weekend.
The bee is covered in the pollen of a pink Rose of Sharon flower.

OUR INDUSTRY WILL DIE IF WE CAN'T STEAL YOUR WORK BUT EACH OF YOU INDIVIDUALLY CREATED NOTHING OF VALUE

I mean idk if it was me I might have workshopped that one for a little longer.

You know, the fair use and AI debate would probably look different if the AI companies hadn't opened with "Hey, authors, we've invented a thing that's going to turn you into buggy whip manufacturers, we're going to get rich doing it, you need new careers, no, we won't pay you, you're worthless."

hi, cis folks!

this is present day reality for UK trans folks. it’s outrageous someone should have to have taken this journey to live as themselves, participate in society, & be with who they love.

hi, cis americans!

this is a future trans americans see that starts with “we need to compromise.”

I want to explain a few things and then it might be clearer why UK trans people are upset.
In 2001 I married my wife, Sylvia.
In 2005 I started medical transition. (1/13)

There is no route out of fascism that involves sacrificing the vulnerable. All that does is tell the fascists that we're willing to turn on each other for the illusion of safety.
gwensnyder.bsky.social
A lot of political influencers within the Atlantic/NYT orbit are very, very eager to sell us on the lie that we can get out of fascism by sacrificing trans people.

They will beat that drum even louder as the right weaponizes this tragedy.

They are liars now & they will be liars in the coming days.

Was it Journey to the End of the Night? I played in Chicago, and it was like a city-wide game of sharks and minnows with strange murals as checkpoints. The game started at 7pm, so it got darker and darker as we made weird friends and ran on illegal parts of Lakeshore Drive and generally had a blast.

hell of a world where wishing ill on someone is condemned more forcefully than actually *doing* ill, to lots of people, on purpose and in public
clairewillett.bsky.social
it appears that @bsky.app have suspended the account of @jessiegender because a trans person saying "I wish ill on JK Rowling" is against the rules, so let me say with my loud cis voice that I too wish ill on all perpetrators of hate speech against trans people

reinstate Jessie, this is ridiculous

This makes me sad because I liked that show, but I’m not interested in S2 if they’re going to use AI. I wrote “Through the Machine” so people will push back on this crap before it becomes the norm. It’s not too late. #noaiart
