When I was young, I worked at Sierra and watched it get sold and run into the ground.
Then I worked at Humongous and watched it get sold and run into the ground.
Worked at a few more places, and eventually burned out of the industry.
Now I do games stuff for fun, and it’s far more satisfying.

29 long years have passed since I founded the emulation archive, Zophar's Domain, on 11.9.96. To this very day, the site still stands as a testament to an era that never actually disappeared but continues to live in the hearts of retrogamers all over the word. Emulation Forever!

Lost Unix v4 Possibly Recovered on a Forgotten Bell Labs Tape From 1973
"A tape-based piece of unique Unix history may have been lying quietly in storage at the University of Utah for 50+ years," reports The Register. And the software librarian at Silicon Valley's Computer History Museum, Al Kossow of Bitsavers, believes the tape "has a pretty good chance of being reco...

I think a lot about the story Carl Reiner told: he’d have been a sewing machine repairman if not for a free WPA drama class. That led to other theater work, to Sid Caesar, to Mel Brooks, and all the rest. All because of one free class paid for by a government that felt the arts were worth teaching.
you ever think about the works progress administration? I sure do. I wish that was a thing now. I would be so glad to contribute my labor to like. A random ass local bridge

One of my favorite things about Lego is how they always make the guys in their pics look like they're about to ask for $5 million to start a company that leases blood to ppl that's called like plateLET, but not before he finishes solemnly attaching the saucer section of a spaceship from Star Trek

See, I haven't had this problem because I've just been refusing to update the app beyond v1.105.0.679 because I didn't want to accept the new terms of service they rolled out months ago. Sure, there's new features I don't get, but I also don't get this.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.
Here's how to turn it off.

Yes please! I don't want "smart" anything in my home. No disembodied lady in a cylinder. No appliances with an internet connection, or an app, and especially no advertisements. I want switches and buttons and knobs that you have to actually get up off your ass to use, and that just work when you do.
New Design Trend: People Downgrading 'Smart' Homes to Analog 'Dumb' Homes, Some with Landlines and Offline Appliances - Slashdot
"People are creating 'dumb homes,'" the VP of research at the Global Wellness Institute, tells the web site Axios.

I've been getting back into the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series after many years, and the most relatable part is how everyday objects like doors and elevators have been imbued with artificial intelligence and it just makes them obnoxious and frustrating to use and everyone hates it.

*End users* can opt out, and will be able to check in the player whether they are watching a real or upscaled video. But I am very curious, if you could put an exact cost on this decision in terms of kWh/atmospheric CO2, what the total would come to.
