If you’re struggling to understand the creep of fascism, just think about the fact that the “opposition party” is now telling people to hope the same police that brutally murdered a man five years ago and set off the largest protest ever will now save them from an even more murderous police.

I have never seen anything more impotent than the EU right now. The US just invaded a nation for its own financial benefit, murdered dozens, disappeared the de facto leader, claimed governance and the oil - and has openly said Greenland is next, and our leaders are here going "oh well yeah haha"

Any nuclear fusion company, investor or advocate is essentially just the greenwashing marketing arm of the fossil gas industries who need a hollow promise that's constantly 'just around the corner' to justify a massive, polluting build-out of gas today and tomorrow

Can the war on coal still be won?
Ten years ago, the U.S. was on track to phase out coal by 2030, thanks to the Sierra Club. Now Trump and AI are delaying the fuel’s decline.

"“You are a witch, and this report is another page in your spellbook," [...] accusing her of trying to "curse Israel with lies and hatred"."

The US is about to lose its large-facility source GHG database (EPA's GHGRP) which the Trump administration is shutting down.

People tracking GHGs internationally think it's bad, but fundamentally they aren't that affected because the future action / change isn't happening in the US anyways.

There have been many attempts to save data that Trump's admin is taking down. But these don't help the core problem, which is that governmental databases are useful because they keep getting updated. If not, they become historical data.

See e.g. GHGRP #climate

I'm sure this isn't a novel insight but everything happening with tech platforms must, to some degree, be driven by their managers and developers actively hating their users and rueing that they have any autonomy as human beings other than being manipulable data points for behavioral experimentation

When I try to get 2023 ACS data (or really any other recent data) from the US Census web site I get:

" Due to the lapse of federal funding, portions of this website will not be updated. Any inquiries submitted will not be answered until appropriations are enacted."

Universities are not educational institutions. They're neoliberal entities that operate like corporations. Their goal isn't to enlighten or protect free speech, but to indoctrinate and produce competent systems managers. This has been a global phenomenon spearheaded by the US and Wall Street.

This is not a joke. This is not normal.

Bill McKibben's latest #climate newsletter, since it has to be somewhat reality based, is now just all about China. Unfortunately it still has some kind of dreamscape embedded it about philanthropy and well-meaning Westerners buying people free solar panels.

A general phenomenon to watch out for is that #renewable power is going to decrease overall volume of trade everywhere -- very approximately half of shipping is carrying fossil fuels around. Look for economists to write many think pieces about how #climate measures destroy trade.
Solar panel imports will reduce OVERALL imports - because the value of diesel imports eclipses the value of solar panel impors.

A solar panel in Nigeria now costs just $60, and can repay the cost of diesel for a generator within 6 months - and even less in other countries.
