The little things add up: broken sidewalks, unkempt weeds, the slow pace of snow removal. Austerity has a cost and a real impact on our quality of life.

We ask city staff to put together budgets, but they are working with scraps.

We can do so much better.

A “winter city” that has no pride, no care, no innovation cuz the balanced approach of austerity forever is the brain rot disease of #ottawa

And IMO, this much salt actually makes it more dangerous and easier to slip/slide and skid when biking

me: towers are good

them: no, we need nice 4-6 storey, human scale buildings

me: we do! let’s rezone the city so we can get 4-6 storeys everywhere

them: oh no, not like that

I ended up driving to a doctor’s appointment today, can confirm it was just as terrible driving around sundown as I expected it would be. I should have just biked even though it was pretty far. Would have probably taken about the same amount of time with traffic, especially on the way home.

Doug Ford wants me dead
A bad day for Canada, and therefore the world.

Ontario (population 16 million, 40% of the country) has passed new legislation prohibiting bike lanes that take a lane from cars.

An escalation from Bill 212, which required municipalities to get approval.
A sad day for cyclists. Bill 60 - which prohibits the conversion of motor vehicle lanes to bike lanes (or any other prescribed purpose) - has passed Third Reading this morning which will kill various cycling projects in Toronto & across Ontario. #shame #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

I have been pushing OC Transpo to adopt a youth pass, for free transit for 18 and under and compliment the existing U-Pass in Ottawa. A big step in that direction today is before transit commission with free service after 5pm, on weekends and holidays for 18-under. Would love to see summers added.

This is like when #OttCity promoted ppl coming DT or to Market with free parking but cost of transit remains the same. If we want to incentivize behaviour and be true to our words and aspirations we need to rethink our approaches.
Meanwhile in #HamOnt the monthly cost of parking a single occupied vehicle at city hall, is $10 less than the monthly cost of taking HSR to city hall. @mayorandreahorwath.bsky.social

If you ask drivers how they’d like to get around their city better, they’ll ask for more and wider lanes.

To get the right answers, it’s time to ask the right questions. Reducing traffic happens when people drive less. We need options. We need places to go nearby.
