No matter how I die, please put my cause of death in line 1 of my obituary. Hoping it’s “she was old as balls” and not “shot to death wearing clown costume” but no matter what, my people deserve to know.

BINGO: "In the Klein world, moral clarity about abuse is polarizing, and polarization, not abuse, is the problem to solve."
juliusgoat.bsky.social
I wrote about why the regrettable conclusions of Ezra Klein pissed me off so badly in the last couple weeks.

On moral cowardice in an era that calls for clarity, and a popular political instinct to try to solve divisions of abuse by ignoring causes. www.the-reframe.com/eventually-y...

The FAA is delaying flights at Newark and Denver airports because they haven’t got enough air traffic control. Burbank has zero ATC from 4.30-10pm.

Lots of controllers who aren’t being paid during the government shutdown are calling in sick.

I don’t really understand the people who think we shouldn’t situate the current moment in context of the last 25 years in American politics, including the actions of the three Democrats who were president during that time

not to mention the sheer humiliation of the underwriting process. Having to report every goddamn thing you’ve ever been diagnosed with, getting dinged for forgetting to mention acne. And then they carve out whatever you might actually need health care for.

I will say it again: one of the most radical acts of resistance you can perform in your day-to-day That’s very easy to do is wearing a well fitting elastomeric or other well fitting n95 or better mask.

Radical acts of shared humanity are resistance.

The gov shutdown means loss of funding for many programs, like in-home health services that free up hospital beds.

Hospital overwhelm is bad: fewer beds, longer waits, more worker burnout, more patient deaths.

Slow system collapse by reducing preventable illness. Wear an n95 in public. Mutual aid:

This writer puts a finger on something I’ve struggled to articulate about what can be so…disheartening… about someone alluding to their “meditation practices”: Meditation can easily become disconnected from justice. The value placed on calm can seem to contradict the urgent need for struggle.

shit's pretty bleak but at least I have lived long enough to see the Buddhists dunking on Ezra Klein:

"Coates is describing lynching, and Klein responds with a meditation about his own mortality. That’s not wisdom. That’s avoidance with a spiritual veneer."

Ezra Klein Just Showed Us Everything Wrong With Secularized Meditation
There’s a moment in Ezra Klein’s recent interview with Ta-Nehisi Coates that’s been bugging me.

“Watson said she saw agents dragging residents, including kids, out of the building without any clothes on and into U-Haul vans. Kids were separated from their mothers…’It was heartbreaking to watch…seeing kids coming out buck naked and taken from their mothers, it was horrible.’”
Massive immigration raid on Chicago apartment building leaves residents reeling: 'I feel defeated'

ER doc here! This is a lie. Wait times are up because the American healthcare system is an unsustainable business model and a for-profit national healthcare system just doesn’t work. These problems will continue to get worse until we change that system. It literally has nothing to do with immigrants

Vance: "If you're an American citizen & you've been to the hospital in the last few years, you've probably noticed wait times are especially large & very often somebody who's there in the ER is an illegal alien. Why do those people get healthcare benefits at hospitals paid for by American citizens?"

Medicare is no longer covering telehealth visits.

Congress has not extended the coverage given during the pandemic, and with the government shutdown that extension is unlikely anytime soon.

So elderly patients on Medicare can no longer take medical appointments from home.

People get so angry about this, I’ve found that interesting. There is definitely some resistance to the idea of reading, not just the act of doing it.

But yeah I am not watching a video, ever, if I can help it.

Guessing we’ll see a gradual or perhaps mass exodus from the armed services of women, assault survivors, trans folks, and Black men who need to grow a beard in order to protect their facial skin. Not sure how he thinks he’s going to make up those losses.

The thing is - all of this nonsense from Hegseth is clearly bad *from a military standpoint*

Yes, there is partisan politics at play but Hegseth is undermining the very institutions he’s supposedly trying to improve. I don’t think this is even debatable.

The right has figured out that it can cause harm, destroy things, even defy the law, and its actions will not be straightforwardly reported, because it the truth feels too partisan. And it has responded by increasing its willingness to break rules and hurt people

I can't get over how the right-wing doesn't understand modern militaries, with the majority serving non-combat roles. You think the best IT security & logistics personnel spends two hours in the gym every day to look like the cast of 300? They're at furry conventions and model train shows.

Presidents get too much credit when the American economy is strong & too much blame when it isn’t. But in the case of farmers who can’t sell crops, Trump clearly gets 100% of the blame. Rare when you can point to economic disaster in a sector directly attributable to a president.

Seeing multiple reports about people coming down with Covid after Fantastic Fest. Most of those people will recover okay! Statistically, however, some will get Long Covid and watch their life flip upside down. Going to a fun event shouldn’t include this risk. We HAVE to adapt to, not ignore, Covid.

Our health insurance premium is shooting up—possibly more than quadrupling to $7,000/month (that’s $84,000/year!) due to the loss of enhanced ACA subsidies and new rules. If you’re on a ACA marketplace plan, check what you’ll pay in 2026 so you’re not caught off guard. No one gets it yet!! #ACA
