Retired, sloppily attired, just plain tired...Reader, knitter, crossword enthusiast, and dabbler in watercolors. She/her.
I said I'd post what I got in my St. Louis Art Supply mystery box. I think I got a lot luckier than my daughter, who was disappointed in hers. Anyway, here it is:

Well now, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

Great thread here.
All right, so I have been a little busy and stressed to do the annual Christmas song explainer, but I’m laid up today without much better to do, so here you go.

Every single year, my mother complains: “nobody can write a new Christmas song anymore? It’s all the same stuff!”

She’s right. 🧵

Did anyone else order one of the St. Louis Art Supply boxes this last round? I was happy with mine...Won't post pics for a day or two in case people might get upset about spoilers (?). My daughter's was...honestly, pretty disappointing. Chances you take, I guess.

I also read alt text when it’s available…to explain things, identify things…and sometimes to have an extra laugh. Some people have a very strong alt text game, I’ll tell you.
I don’t have any disability that requires that I use alt-text to describe images, but I still use it to understand pictures of people I don’t know or jokes I don’t understand. Alt-text is useful for so much. Just put it on your pictures. Please.
WTF? I come online to witness my friend being HARASSED for asking their followers to use alt text??

Well I have news:

Alt text is very useful to me, a human w/ medical trauma that causes lifelong visibility issues; it makes me feel included/welcome when I see people using it on the timeline.

Continuing my reading of all the @rachelhowzell.bsky.social books I can get my hands on with Land of Shadows, which i think may be my favorite of hers so far. The main character, Elouise Norton, is one tough cookie…at least on the outside.

Really, really good.

This whole thread…this needs to be screamed from the rooftops.
This is what they've done.
This is super cool bc:

1) Many of the highest-risk conditions, like ME/CFS & Long Covid, aren't on the list

2) The best way to protect the vulnerable is to protect the population so others don't infect them

3) None of this accounts for Novavax which is not mRNA

It's time for the "How to do ALT text" image again.

Writing a perfect ALT text is impossible, but please try 💚!

Visually impairment is a wide spectrum and doesn't keep people from loving the visual arts.

@mayormcfrumples.bsky.social - Lotsa Sekiro talk here!
I bought Sekiro. I know Souls games are too hard for me. But I bought it anyway. I’m a button smasher. You can’t be a button smasher in Sekiro. So I’ve spent like an hour in the training temple trying to figure this shit out. Am I having fun? I don’t know. Probably not. But I’m STUBBORN.

Fraxinus Excelsior is a great name for a character!

@mayormcfrumples.bsky.social - Quote-posted to you for inspiration. I find it very memorable, much like Pummuliort. (Okay, I don’t always remember how to spell that damn horse’s name.)
This morning I've been reading about trees, and have learned that the ash's scientific name is Fraxinus Excelsior, which is now the name I will take if I ever go questing. I have also learned that there's a yew tree in Belgium called Caesarsboom, because Julius Caesar once took a nap under it.

@rachelhowzell.bsky.social - I’m about 2/3 of the way through Fog and Fury and am going to look for more of your books at the library today. I love Sonny Rush. Despite her trauma and anxiety she’s so much braver than I could fathom being.
