So, Sunday Times runs with latest poll showing Farage winning if there was an election now. But makes NO mention of Reform’s collusion with Russia. And this is how democracy gets beaten to death in the dark. Voters are not being told the truth. Reform is given the stage but is NEVER held to account.

I went a couple of weeks ago. I thought the whole place especially its social conscience messages was brill.

My reflections on this positive event, it feels there's a real opportunity for us to shift the narrative on care. We're so keen to create a hopeful future full of abundance for all of us, it's good to see others feel the same.

Before I run off to eat lunch a few reflections on the @claremontcomms.bsky.social event today exploring how we create a society that values care. It's positive to see focus on the need to shift how we talk about care - in all it's forms to one that is universal. 🧵

Few thoughts from me on the newly launched report from @centreforcare.bsky.social
carefull.bsky.social
I (Ruth) have just attended the launch of @centreforcare.bsky.social launch of their research into adult social care worker organising. A really interesting area, especially as Care Full is exploring solidarity in and across care. Thoughts. 🧵

Capitalism has created a world of bullshit abundance, where we have too much of what we don’t need and too little of what we do.

Join us in Sheffield on 2 October to hear Keir Milburn in conversation about the alternative: Radical Abundance ✨

People say the BBC lack flexibility in the modern digital era, but the launch and roll out of their 24 hour Charlie Kirk News channel in a matter of hours was pretty impressive.

New Mexico is getting universal pre school childcare, like the next NYC mayor promises.

Over 60 years since Eleanor Roosevelt called for it, this is key to ending the gender pay gap.

In the UK we now have 30 hours free, but lack public nurseries + proper pay for staff.

It is exhausting how the government continues to play into Farage's hands.

Thank you to the @highpaycentre.bsky.social for flagging the disgusting disparity. For additional context it would take unpaid carers a MILLIENIUM, yes that's right 1000 years to earn this much! That's £83 p/w for 1000 years!

What a vile individual. This is low even for him. You don’t use recognising Palestine - or anywhere else - as a *threat* to another country. You either have a sincere conviction that statehood is valid and deserved or you don’t. Unless of course you are a hollow vessel with no convictions at all.

If we want a society where we can care for ourselves, one another and the planet taxing the wealthiest is an essential first step.

When world-leading economists argue that the UK needs a wealth tax our Govt should listen. History tells us ambition is possible and preferable; that the UK can be world leading.

Anyone else as mystified as I am by the wilful misreading of these statements by Diane Abbott by the BBC.
In interpretation of meaning a basic principle should be to understand the context for the speaker.
Does anybody believe the UK is now ‘colour blind’?

I think this a wonderfully thoughtful piece. I think nuance and complexity in all its forms is being squeezed out of discussion and policy making.

Ruth has a few reflections on @resfoundation.bsky.social event on #carers this morning. Give it a read and let us know your thoughts.
ruthhannan.bsky.social
I'm watching this event. A few thoughts - this may end up a thread.
I've worked in this space a long time and I could be watching this 20 years ago. David's points in particular are outdated - his point about "weak families" when referring to non-nuclear families is deeply disrespectful. 🧵#carers
resfoundation.bsky.social
Speaking at our event David Goodhart says that we should think of social care as a key preventative wing of the NHS, helping to reduce the number of eldery people going into A&E.

This valuing up of social care should extend to its staff, he says, but it should include a higher minimum wage.
ruthhannan.bsky.social
And, finally for @resfoundation.bsky.social to have a panel with no lived experience voice of care on it is a mistake. If you want to change that in the future. Give us at @carefull.bsky.social a call.
ruthhannan.bsky.social
There are some really progressive ideas like four day weeks, UBI, UBS & recently read Universal Care Income. If we are to truly help those with a relationship to care we have to recognise a wealth tax will help fund many aspects of life that we need.
